2/13-14 - The All-of-Us Express Children's Theatre Wind in the Willows is outstanding; it's the timeless story of a dreamer who gets himself into trouble but fortunately has friends who are there to support each other. The cast is expressive and has great chemistry, projects and enunciates well. The costumes, makeup and set are creative, and the story incorporates a "fight" scene between the friends and the conniving weasels which is so extensive and well-choreographed you could watch it repeatedly and continue to notice something new each time. The story is straightforward enough to be understood by all ages, and the action will keep even young attendees' attention.

Due in no small part to its relatable characters, sharp comedic writing and Lucille Ball’s signature zany charm, the show continues to endear new audiences with every passing generation. The program was a technical trailblazer, pioneering the multi-camera shooting technique (still employed by the majority of traditional sitcoms to this day) and the use of 35mm film for the capture of a weekly, 30 minute scripted television program (which made possible the re - airing of episodes at a later date, what we now know as “reruns”). 2/11-12 - WALNUT STREET THEATRE: A LIFE IN THE THEATRE Theatre Series at Wharton Center Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

The theatre, which boasts over 200 years of operation as the oldest theatre in America, has seen its fair share of history through the bright lights that shine down on their world-renowned stage. WALNUT STREET THEATRE will continue their historic legacy when they appear as part of the Theatre Series at Wharton Center. Tickets to see WALNUT STREET THEATRE are available at the official source to purchase Wharton Center tickets online, whartoncenter.com , at the Auto - Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1 - 800 - WHARTON. WALNUT STREET THEATRE will pump new life into David Mamet’s hit show , A Life in the Theatre, when they grace the Wharton Center stage this February . The play , which chronicles the struggle of an older, veteran actor and a newcomer on the scene , mirrors the same pulsing rhythm and quick dialogue of Mamet’s other hits, Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed - the - Plow. From rehearsals to reprisals, from ego trips to acting tips, this comedy c performance will speak volumes on the themes of generational differences and the nasty draw of the spotlight. Though the language may not be suitable for children under 15, the portrayals by the two actors will resonate through the bright comedy and quick - witted writing that has become a staple of Mamet’s professional repertoire. The history surrounding WALNUT STREET THEATRE has definitely been legendary. From trial runs of a Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando , to molding future stars like Katharine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Lauren Bacall, and Robert Redford , WALNUT STREET THEATRE has kept the flames of theatre burning for almost 200 years. This profound theatrical history will continue when A Life in the Theatre takes the stage in East Lansing, creating a one - of - a - kind, can’t - be - missed experience. Currently I am working on our annual Gala scheduled for Saturday, 2/28. The theme is vintage Hollywood. We will be having a step-and-repeat red carpet entrance, filmed and everything. We are looking for people to portray Marilyn, Cary, Clark, Betty, etc. They would be comped tickets and provided costumes to mix and mingle in character. We are also looking for actors to portray paparazzi. You can e-mail me or call me at 517-449-7252. Most Appreciatively, Shela 3/14 - NOTE - Evan will still be in town for another month-ish, so you have another opportunity to say farewell at his last “emcee” gig to announce Riverwalk’s Season 27 Shows and Directors!
Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. for “Pinsonnault Presents” where Evan will announce Riverwalk's 2015-2016 shows. Share in hundreds of dollars’ worth of show and season ticket prizes as Evan hosts a theatrical version of “The Price Is Right.” Tickets are $20 and include two wine vouchers — and will be available at the door. Actor, and Board Member, Evan has been active with Riverwalk since 2009 when he played the Baker in Into the Woods. He also performed in A Few Good Men, Fortinbras, Puss in Boots, Conspiracy, Follies, and A Shot in the Dark. Evan is following girlfriend Rebecca Lauren’s exciting new job opportunity in West Hollywood at Cedars-Sinai. He will depart at the end of March after wrapping up his run on 6 News This Morning. He’s ready to make the most of this opportunity — perhaps becoming a real-life TV game show host? Don’t miss his last “amateur” game-show-host gig at RWT. 2/20 - I was hoping you could send a note to all our email-savvy theatre friends to let them know that Rebecca and I are having a "Going Away Networking Event” with Evan Pinsonnault and Rebecca Mueller on Friday, February 20th at the U-Club of MSU.
It will be from 730pm until midnight (or thereabouts) and feature light snacks, a cash bar, entertainment from Mike Eyia and The Rotations with perhaps some guest appearances by as many theatre friends we can persuade to join them for a number or two ;-) I plan on rocking Earth, Wind & Fire once a few glasses of wine are missing, hehe. Since the theatre community has truly been my family since I've lived and worked here, it would mean a lot to have as many of you there as possible before our big move. And yes, there will be an opportunity for some brief story-telling moments for those approved to get the mic (Becca has the say in this one, lol). Many Thanks and Hope to See You and the Crew Soon! —Evan 2/5-15 - Ain’t Misbehavin’ opens Thursday the 5th! (But we will be out of town… no GLUT review possible until the FOLlowing Thursday, but the buzz is exciting!)
The elegance, style and fabulous music of the Harlem Renaissance will be reborn at Riverwalk Theatre as Ain’t Misbehavin’ takes the stage February 5-8 and 12-15. Hope Rollins directs the musical by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby Jr., which is named for the 1929 Fats Waller song and features many more from the 1920s to the 1940s. Rollins, whose previous Riverwalk projects include Dreams of My Ancestors, which she also wrote, and Smokey Joe’s Café, said she has always been attracted to the Harlem Renaissance era, a cultural awakening for the African American community in the United States. “From dance to art to clothing to culture, it was a rich time in history, with Fats Waller being one of the great musicians of the time,” Rollins said. The cast includes Terence D. Gipson, Marcus Herndon, Angel Taylor, Danielle Embry and Carin McEvoy in leading roles. The choir and dance ensemble includes Jessie Allen, Danielle Embry, Terence Gipson, Marcus Herndon, Rebecca Lane, Carin McEvoy, Angel Taylor, Zakiya Williams Chantelle Henry, Joshua Moore, Hope Rollins, Tristyn Wright, and William Word, Sr. Rollins said the set will include a dramatic 1920s-style staircase that will allow singers and dancers to perform on multiple levels. In addition, she’s adding some period choreography to boost the visual elements of the show. “I wanted to enrich that a little bit,” she said. “There are some wonderful songs and some wonderful blocking that happen on that stair.” In addition, videography with some period photos and other elements will add another visual element as well as historical context. Rollins promises it will be well worth a trip to Riverwalk to spend a couple of hours in another era. “There’s nothing that brings a heart more joy than congregating in a room with great music and laughter,” she said.
