Would you like to hear the legend of Robin Hood? If your answer is “ I Sherwood,” then hitch up your gauntlets and get ready to laugh. This hilarious send
up of the Robin Hood story leaves no stone unturned or, at least, tripped over. You see, it’s a little known fact that the famous English bandit was bit of a klutz. As a kid he practiced with a bow and violin instead of a bow and arrow, so naturally to fight the king’s injustices he needed his famous band of women. Women? That’s what you get when you send Little John to do the recruiting! But just as the ladies are persuaded that after they steal from the rich they have to give the goodies to the poor, Robin is tricked by a rhyming witch and is taken captive by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. At the palace, King John, far from sounding like royalty with his hick accent, holds a festival to trap all of Robin’s followers. Sword play and derring-do plus a lot of cheap tricks allow goodness to triumph over evil and Robin Hood to win the hand of the lovely Maid Marian. Performances are Friday and Saturday November 8 & 9 at 7 pm and Sunday, November 10th at 2 pm at the Margaret Livensparger Theater at Holt High School; 5885 West Holt Road, Holt MI 48842. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $8 adults and $6 students/seniors (those 60 and better). ... based on the novel by Charles Webb and the motion picture screenplay by Calder Willingham & Buck Henry, directed by John Lepard
Benjamin Braddock, recent college graduate and prodigal son, returns home and promptly becomes embroiled in an affair with Mrs. Robinson, the wife of his father's business partner, but quickly finds himself falling in love with their daughter, Elaine. Made famous by the 1967 Mike Nichols-directed film that helped launch Dustin Hoffman’s career, the play was a West End and Broadway hit. Director John Lepard says, “Even though The Graduate is set in 1964, I think it speaks to our students in a profound way. The world is a tough place to be thrust into these days. There are not a lot of full time jobs available, the American Dream seems further out of reach than in recent history, our government is more polarized than I have seen in my lifetime. The people in charge may seem ‘grotesque’ because of what could be seen as failures of the older generations. Where does a young graduate turn? How can he/she find something to make sense of the world?” The LCC cast features Scott Laban as Benjamin, Deb Keller as Mrs. Robinson and Clearie McCarthy as Elaine. Other cast members include Katie Bristol (Mrs. Braddock), Adam Pruden (Mr. Braddock), Ryan Thumser (Mr. Robinson), and Devin Faught and Amelia M. Rogocka in various roles. Deb is an LCC and Cornerstone University theatre professor, a Purple Rose Theatre company member, and frequent Peppermint Creek Theatre director. Clearie, Ryan and Amelia are students in LCC’s Theatre Studio Program. Scott, Katie, Adam and Devin are recent LCC Theatre alumni. Director John Lepard is an LCC and MSU theatre professor, executive director of Williamston Theatre, and a professional stage and film actor. Performances are November 1-9 at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and one 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, November 3 (sign interpreted) in Dart Auditorium, 500 N.
