Bernie was born in Petoskey on April 7, 1947, to Malcolm B. and Lovina M. (Bauman) Adams. She graduated from Petoskey High School in 1965 and worked for a time at the Bell Telephone Company here.
As young people often do, Bernie moved away from her hometown, down to the Lansing area, where she married Roger White in 1973 (divorced, 1996). She lived in Mid-Michigan for more than 30 years, being a mom to her son, RJ, working at schools, and tirelessly volunteering for numerous community theater groups and the local PBS station.
After a brief period in Colorado, Bernie then moved back to Petoskey and was able to spend her last years surrounded by the friends and family that she loved so much.
Bernie is survived by brothers and sisters, Eltha (Richard) Florenski of Gaylord, Malcolm (Patricia) Adams Jr., Donna (John) Page, Mary (Randy) Handwerk and Susie Emmons, all of Petoskey, Dianna (David) Springett of South Haven and Duane Adams of Harbor Springs; several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews; countless friends; and her son, RJ (Laura) White of Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
A remembrance ceremony and scattering of Bernie’s ashes will take place in May at Greenwood Cemetery.
