Dramedy adapted by Dale Wasserman from Ken Kesey’s novel,

Directed by Diane Cooke & Liz Cooke

Audition Dates:  Sun & Mon, December 13 &14, 2015, at 7 pm.

Production Dates:  February 11-21, 2016

A charming rogue finagles a short sentence in an airy mental institution to avoid a term in prison.  He leads the other “quirky” inmates in a revolt for TV privileges and clashes with the formidable head nurse. Consequences follow. Set in the early 1960’s.

Cast of Characters:

The Patients:

Chief Bromden – An imposing man of mixed Native American and white heritage. Pretends to be a deaf mute in order to protect himself from the forces of “The Combine”

Dale Harding – A college-educated, handsome (if somewhat effeminate) man, who everyone knows has a very sexy wife at home

Billy Bibbit –A stuttering, possibly suicidal man thanks to a dominating mother

Scanlon – A balding, sulking man

Cheswick – A chubby little man – turbulent one moment to cringing the next

Martini –An eager but delusional Italian

Ruckley – Once a powerful man, now blank-faced and empty-eyed

Randle P. McMurphy – A gambling ‘bad boy. A charming con man with a devilish grin.

The Staff:

Aide Warren and Aide Williams – Men hired to assist with patients and help maintain order on the ward

Dr. Spivey – Resident Psychiatrist - Pipe-smoking, glasses-fumbling, easily influenced man

Nurse Ratched – The Head Nurse – definitely IN CHARGE! Pretty beneath the hard exterior, can go from screaming for control - to in control in 0-60 seconds.

Nurse Flinn – The pretty nurse who gives out the pills. A ditzy, but efficient(ish) catholic girl

Aide Turkle – Elderly night watchman

Others:

Candy Starr – A prostitute with a ‘heart of gold’. “A real dish”

Sandra – Candy’s friend – An ‘earthy wench’
