I was lucky enough to see "the original" on Broadway back in the 70's as well as the Okemos Barn version in 1981, and be IN the LCC version in 1997 - and this IS a show that "wears well" and gets deeper as we age. Maybe this too-much perspective of mine is unfair to the all-student cast, which, though excellent, lacked some of the gravitas of age for the older characters — and the age gaps of the teen/20's to middle aged, to elderly are significant to the plot.
It's amazing the work all these singers have put in on this complex music for only three shows -- even more remarkable because many are double cast and a quite different group will be performing Saturday night, including most of the leads, as noted by the asterisks in the program. This same Friday group will reappear Sunday at 3 pm.
Don't miss this fleeting musical at the Pasant Theatre in Wharton Center - only two more shows!
Tickets $20 ($18 senior & $5 student) from the Wharton Center Box Office 517-432-2000
