Soon the chemistry of his rock-star energy meets the talent of his repressed prep-school students and explodes into a race toward The Battle of the Bands - boosting egos, teaching lessons and disrupting/reconnecting relationships between the kids and their parents — as well as Dewey and his henpecked friend Ned (Lane Roate) and fierce hen-pecker Patty (Emily Borromeo). Stern uptight principal, Rosalie, eventually succumbs to the music — another terrific performer.
The kids are all amazing. A pre-show announcement assures they DO play their own instruments (the most frequently asked question) and they are well backed up by a super rock orchestra in the pit. Their musicianship, their choreography - simple but evocative and ironically precise, considering the wildness of many numbers was a wonder. I could not jump up an down that much and still sing, much less play an instrument. The kids were a marvel and an inspiration. This is a fun, uplifting show the whole family can enjoy.
