Kaleel Van Voorhees nailed the role, channeling bits of Betty Boop and Bernadette Peters — but she was not the only star. Samantha White and Mathieu Wiesner were wonderful as Sarah and Sky, and Joe Draheim, Alek Doerr and Peyton Brogan exhibited tough gangster charm as Nathan Detroit, Benny Southstreet and Nicely Nicely Johnson. The entire cast (of 58?!) did a fine job.
Director Mark Shaheen and choreographer PK Van Voorhees can be proud of it all. The large cast and the simple but imaginative choreography delivered the 30’s in style. Voices and music were great and well miked, and this is such a classic show, every song is a familiar treat. (Music Director Jeff English; Orchestra Director Dave Laraelere.)
