Most notable of these woMEN was Iris Raine Paul as villainous bastard son, Edmund, who managed to project macho swagger despite her diminutive size. Steve Ledyard as the doomed Earl of Gloucester (gory special effects by Amelia Rogoka) and Anne Marie Foley as the Fool, Chanae Houska as scheming daughter Regan, and Mark Polzin as Edgar all are among the talented Shakespeare aficionados who have stood out in previous ELCT productions, The Tempest and Twelfth Night, and added to their Shakespeare cred with this show.
And, of course, Mike Stewart, founder of ELCT also played our proud, misguided, eventually crazed King Lear. He has directed and/or performed in all ELCT’s shows. I imagine he is responsible for the effective, moody, medieval recorded music between scenes and storm sounds (light/sound operator Tod Humphrey) and the simple but effective set - mostly furniture and lighting. Erica Beck did a nice job with costumes, with loans from Galen Sandy Scott and James Scott of midrealm.org — and Alexis Black and Brian DeVries helped with fight choreography. Kudos to Mike and director Dale Wayne Williams for putting it all together.
King Lear continues at 7 pm Thur/Fri/Sat at Hannah Community Center through September 22. $10 tickets are available at the front desk of Hannah Community Center, Abbot Rd. E.L.
