The coy and versatile Connor Kelly is Ivan Hlestekov, a charming ne’er-do-well mistaken for “the government inspector” by the pretentious, scheming, foolish, selfish collection of town officials led by Jesse Frawley as the pompous Mayor. Connor’s brother Quinn plays the Judge, another talent in the family. The Nicoles are entertaining: Nicole May as the Mayor’s overbearing, seductive wife, and Nicole Yabs as his sullen, cranky but eventually oversexed daughter. Todd Heywood, brings a droll contrast as impostor Ivan's somewhat paternal manservant, Osip. Ian Whipp and Brandon Townsend are the goofy duo Dobchinsky/Bobchinsky who started the ball of confusion rolling.
Director Mary Matzke has masterminded this manic entertainment. She notes that, “Tonight we will witness the antics that arise when corruption equals political problem-solving. And, paradoxically, we may find it is this exposure to our basest human instincts that ultimately unites us in laughter.”
The Government Inspector continues Saturday at 8 and the following Fri/Sat at 8 and Sunday the 12th at 2 at Dart Auditorium.
