Kathryn Willis is appropriately evil as the titular Queen, bent on spreading hate and making Winter last forever. Ian Whipp is hilarious as her henchman Cobweb. The clever boy, Kay (Jason Durr) Is kidnapped, setting earnest Gerda (Michelle Danaj) to his rescue. Tyler Frease and Anne Marie Foley were an extremely animated and entertaining Ravens (not Crows!) along with a passel of fun polar bears, thieves, and a reindeer. The versatile Dakota Kruse and Katie Dufort each played two extremely different roles. I didn't realize they were the same actors until I looked at the program.
The set (Renee Suprenant) lighting (Michael Beyer) and sound (Paige Tuford & Andrew Birchmeier) work together beautifully to dramatize the arctic environment. The costumes (Kate Hudson Koskinen) are wonderful, especially the animals — not realistic but totally evocative, and let the actors' faces show to be more expressive.
