Lansing's favorite singer/songwriter duo, Tom & Mary have a talented son, Marty, who joined his cousin Micaela's band last year. (Some of us were impressed by them at Tom and Mary's latest "Riverwalk Saturday Night" last November. They are called Fly Paper and they are very talented and a lot of fun. Check them out on their website: flypaperrock.com and be sure to watch their official video - Sing, sing, sing along. We're trying to make it go viral!!! Peace & Love everybody!!
The Blue Light Players (bluelightplayers.com) are producing the musical All Shook Up on February 21, 22, and 23 at the Hannah Center in East Lansing. We have a great cast and we can't wait to share the show with our audience. However, we are in need of technical/backstage assistance. We are looking for 3 individuals for our backstage running crew. The dates and times they would be needed are:
Sunday, February 16th: 2pm-11pm (tech rehearsal) Tuesday, Feburary 18th: 6pm-11pm (tech/dress) Thursday, February 20th: 6pm-11pm (dress rehearsal) Friday, February 21st: 5pm-end of show (7pm curtain) Saturday, February 22nd: 5pm-end of show (7pm curtain) Sunday February 23rd: 2pm-end of show (4pm curtain) The running crew would not be responsible for heavy lifting, as our set pieces are minimal and the larger pieces are on rollers. We also have tech crew in place to handle those pieces. Anyone who is interested in joining our crew may send an email to: bluelightplayers@gmail.com or contact Dan Southwell at: 517-490-4567. January 23 – February 23, 2014 Directed by John Lepard A collaboration with the MSU Department of Theatre Uneasy is the head on which the crown lies, and uneasy the truce between a matchless king and queen. This is the legendary story of King Henry II of England, and the battle between his fiercely competitive sons to be chosen next in line for the throne. Add in his banished Queen, the notorious Eleanor of Aquitaine, mother of said sons and equally competitive, and King Louis of France, and two countries find themselves on the brink of bloody war at the whim of a temperamental and power hungry family. This classic tale of deception, manipulation and world dominance will draw you into its irresistible web, and might not let you go without a fight. Enter the gripping courtroom drama at Riverwalk Theatre as “12 Angry Men” are brought together to deliberate after hearing the 'facts' in what looks like a seemingly open and shut murder case. They retire to a jury room to do their civic duty and serve up a just verdict for the defendant whose life is in the balance. While a guilty verdict appears inevitable, one reluctant juror is not so convinced and works to convince the other jurors of his innocence. What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other. This stage play is a powerful indictment, denouncement and expose of the trial by jury system. The frightened, teenaged defendant is on trial, as well as the jury and the American judicial system with its purported sense of infallibility, fairness and lack of bias. Show dates are January 9-19. First presented on television in 1954, Reginald Rose's drama is best known from the 1957 film starring Henry Fonda as the dissenting juror in a murder trial who insists on deliberating despite what appears to be overwhelming evidence for a guilty verdict. The stage version has long been a crowd-pleaser, taking its place with "Inherit the Wind" in a category of drama that turns civics into gripping entertainment. Director Bob Robinson (with assistant direction by Linda Widener) has assembled a cast of veteran and new stage performers. The jurors include: Charles Sartorius, Justin Banks, Michael Hays, Todd Heywood, Erik Grill, Mark Polzin, Alex Freeman, Jeff Magnuson, John Liskey, James Houska, Leo Poroshin and Gary Mitchell. Dates: January 9-12 and 16-19, 2014. Times: Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Ticket Prices: $14 regular price, $12 for seniors 55+ or students BARGAIN THURSDAY PRICES: $10.00 Regular, $8.00 Seniors/Students.
