MSU Behind the Scenes Class

Please Join Us for Another Free “Behind the Scenes” Class
After the wonderful turnout at the recent class on the musical “9 to 5”, the MSU Friends of Theatre and MSU Department of Theatre, in collaboration with our hosts at The Peoples Church of East Lansing, are pleased to offer a second free “Behind the Scenes” class, a discussion of the student production of
“Decision Height” by playwright Meredith Danya Levy
“BEHIND THE SCENES” is composed of two discussion sessions separated by a one-week opportunity to attend a performance of “Decision Height” at Studio 60 on Auditorium Rd on the MSU Campus.
  • Our initial class will focus on the background of the show and the rehearsal process.  The presenters will discuss the Storefront model that is used for the play.  Dramaturg Addy Vanderbilt and Assistant Director Rileigh Wine will lead the discussion.  The class will be held at Peoples Church on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 3:00-5:00 pm.
  • Class participants will have a one-week opportunity to attend the play at MSU’s Studio 60, located on the lower level of the Auditorium building, on the day and time of their choosing (details are below). Parking is available across the street from Auditorium building.
  • A second discussion-style class will be held at Peoples Church on Thursday, April 10, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, after the play closes. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with actors involved in the production; this always promises to be a lively discussion.
  • Although classes are free, registration is required. Please submit this REGISTRATION FORM: https://forms.office.com/r/VFHdjP7q3K  to secure a spot. If you have any questions, please contact Kath Clark at [email protected] or (517) 884-7796. Seating is limited.
Peoples Church is at 200 Grand River Ave, East Lansing. Classes are in the Robertson Room. Free parking, including handicapped spaces, is available on the west side of the church. The Church is handicapped accessible.
Since the show run is short and the theater is the smallest one at MSU, the Department of Theatre is offering a chance to attend the dress rehearsal on Monday evening, March 31.  A donation of $10, payable at the door, would be appreciated. The play runs from April 1 to 5.  To purchase tickets to the play, go to WHARTON CENTER or call the Ticket Office at (517) 432-2000 or toll-free at 1-800-WHARTON.  The cheapest way to purchase tickets is to go in person to the Wharton Center or to buy at the time of the performance when tickets will be $10.  If you order online at Wharton Center.com the cost is $13.  Tickets purchased by calling Wharton Center are $20.
Class Organizers: Carol Bryson, Sam Austin, and Joan Mattson; Faculty Collaborators: Rob Roznowski and Kirk Domer.
PLAY SYNOPSIS:
Amidst the chaos of war, Virginia has left home to become a Woman Airforce Service Pilot during World War II.  As she faces a pivotal decision that will change her life forever, “Decision Height” tells an unforgettable story of bravery, sacrifice and sisterhood, shining light on a courageous group of unrecognized American Heroes.
