Black Actress needed for Ixion

8/31/2025

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ixion Ensemble is seeking an actor for the role of Zora in their first production of this season, "A Song for Coretta" directed by Kamara Drane. This show is going into rehearsals, but we still need to fill this important role. The show will perform October 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 & 19. 7PM on Fridays and Saturdays 3PM on Sundays at Stage One at Sycamore Creek Church 2020 Lake Lansing Rd.

Zora Evans - Black woman, (early-mid 20s), a highly educated and hungry young journalism student who is desperate to tell the stories that matter, even if others don't think they do. Almost annoying in her urgency, but not quite.

If interested please email lmailto:[email protected]. Recorded auditions are welcome to be sent to that email or we can arrange a private audition.

TRIAL PRACTICE ACTING GIG FALL 2025!

Use your acting and improvisational skills, have fun, help students and get paid at the same time!

RIVERWALK THEATRE and the MSU College of Law are looking for actors who are interested in playing the plaintiff, the defendant, and the witnesses in mock civil trials for the MSU College of Law Trial Practice Institute.

This semester’s case, BOFUS v DUFRAME, is a wrongful death case arising from the death of Lindsey Marie Bofus who died tragically when she ran into the street in a panic upon being accosted by a young man who allegedly harassed, intimidated and bullied her at a summer camp they both were attending.

There are 4 trials, all using the same case study over 2 days. We are looking for a total of 12 actors --2 actors to play the plaintiff, 2 actors to play the defendant and 8 other actors to play the other witnesses. Each witness will appear in 2 trials, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

A $250 stipend will be paid for participation in this project.

Details about the roles and dates can be found on the Riverwalk Theatre website - https://www.riverwalktheatre.com/mock-trial
Contact Tom Ferris (mailto:[email protected]) if you are interested and available.

Bare Bones Improv Family Friendly 2pm Sun.

8/9/2025

We attended the wild and inventive Bare Bones Improv at Riverwalk tonight (Saturday) — the second of two sold-out “adult” shows — Lots of fun!  Kudos to Sandy Callis, Tatum Cho, Naomi “Mani” Collazo, TJ Kelly,  Cats Maris, Oskar Milton, Adonis Ortiz, Ron Parkinson, and Maddy Smith.

The Big Question — CAN they edit out the F-bombs from their on-the-spot imaginations for the Family Friendly show 2pm today(Sunday 8/10)?

That’s the promise — and I have faith they can deliver! (Somebody email me a report…?)

Bare Bones is all about a child-like energy and “let’s pretend” mentality so it’s a great opportunity for you parents/grandparents to pry your kids OFF their phones to join in this theatrical adventure. Fun for the whole family — and air conditioned!

It’s like a series of “games” on stage with audience shouting out ideas and set ups — and if you get there early, you will probably be able to write down funny situations/ideas that they will draw out of a hat (bowl) and bring to life on stage. There ARE quite a few tix left for tomorrow, so you may be able to pay at the door, but safest to order online. You will get an email that can be scanned for admission.

RWT Emerging Done - Bare Bones Coming

8/5/2025

The Emerging Playwrights Festival of short plays written by VERY imaginative high schoolers was in Riverwalk’s packed Black Box last Saturday was a wild variety of shows and readings: The Chicaneries Murder of a Sunscreen Salesperson by Malia Reitz — as crazy as it sounds — with elegant period costumes and a magic bubble machine. Duncan’s Dragontail by Gail Maynard featured fun shadow puppets. A Lone Woman’s Voice by Rachel Rowan brought a dark shade of depression. Lightning from Heaven revealed a murderous roommate, and Melanie by AJ Triantaflos showed us unsettling what-if’s and a mysterious advisor. Thanks to directors Tom Ferris and Susan Chmurynsky and the talented cast: Elena Billard, Megan Harma, Julie Franklin, Charles Hoogstraten, Holly Kay-Cannon, Vahlaree Kakela, Rebecca Lane, Tim Lewis, Rachel Mender, Elizabeth Sauter, Xia Skowronek, and Mike Sobocinski.

Too bad if you missed that. Watch for next year’s Emerging Playwrights winners!

But wait, there’s more!

Bare Bones improv group is BA-aack after its hit show last fall, making it all up as they go along with surprising creativity and talent. I was amazed by their quick wits and agile antics and have my tix for Saturday. This time they have TWO “adult” shows Friday and Saturday plus a “family friendly” shorter show on Sunday afternoon.

General seating and tickets at the door while they last — but I’d strongly advise buying tickets online in advance because these smaller-capactity Black Box Riverwalk shows can easily sell out. DIScount if you are a Riverwalk MEMber ($15/$10) which we should ALL be, in light of shaky arts funding these days — let’s put the comMUNity in community theatre!
