Step back a few decades to New York City in the 1980s, and enter a rough and rundown nightclub called The Bad Side. Temptations abound and hard luck isn’t far behind. Yet as the characters of Steppin’ to the Bad Side make their choices and find their way, they discover something else: a community that accepts them, a family.
Steppin’ to the Bad Side is the 11th original musical revue that has been created and directed by Janine Novenske Smith for Lansing Community College’s musical scenes class. It features songs from a wide array of musicals including Dream Girls, Kinky Boots, Catch Me if You Can, Sweet Charity, The Life, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Pippin, Bonnie & Clyde, and more. Karyn Perry is the choreographer and music director/pianist John Dale Smith leads a five piece band.
The powerhouse cast members includes Erin Biel, James Aaron Curtis, Katelyn Curtis, Matt Eldred, Alison Grojean, Brennan Hattaway, Zion Jackson, Suzanna LeForge, Danielle R. Lynch, Racheal Raymer, Sidney Sauseda II, DJ Shafer, Prince Jerrell Spann, Kelly Stuible and Adam Woolsey.
