MMFT Needs Actors

4/24/2013

…to fill out the cast of Monster in the Closet. If you are interested, please let Bill Gordon know and he will get back to you. ([email protected])
Regular production fees would apply. ($55 Lansing resident/$50 non resident for youth age 6-17; adults free.) Rehearsals will be on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 - 8:30. Here is the description of the play:
Emily has a big problem.  Not only is she sent to bed just as she reaches the highest level of her new video game, but there’s a monster in her closet!  It’s not just her imagination.  Her friend Stephanie saw it, too.  Suffering the teasing of her brother and his friends, Emily and Stephanie recruit some of their own friends to help capture the monster.  What they don’t know is that Murray, the closet monster, doesn’t mean any harm — he only wants to play Emily’s new video game.  He’s too scared of kids to even think about trying to frighten them.  Murray’s boss, the Dream King, has heard about his goofing off on the job, and now Murray is on probation.  Murray’s supervisor, fellow monster Wanda, is not happy with him either.  After all, every monster knows that when a child is born, a monster is assigned to watch over her — not to play with her toys and especially not to get caught in the act!  What will happen when Emily has all her friends over for a sleepover to try to capture Murray?  Even with Emily’s friend Brain’s careful analysis and planning, the girls wind up trapping the Dream King and his secretary, Toady, instead of Murray.  With other wonderfully entertaining characters like Sandy the Sandman and his dream weavers, the solution to Emily’s monster problem brings humor, a bit of ingenuity and a little magic to this charming and delightful family show.
Production dates – Friday, May 31 – Sunday, June 9, 2013

4/15-16 - LCC AUDITIONS: Schoolhouse Rock LIVE!

4/12/2013

6pm April 15-16 in Dart Auditorium
Director: John Lennox, Music Director: John Dale Smith, Choreographer: Karyn Perry
Performances: June 19-23 in LCC’s Outdoor Amphitheatre, part of the LCC Summer Stage Under the Stars Festival

Description: The Emmy Award-winning 1970's Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, and more through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, it’s lighting up stages everywhere -- from school multi-purpose rooms to university and regional theatres all around the country. SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just A Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly,” and “Conjunction Junction.” Originally adapted and produced for the Stage by Theatre BAM, from the series created by George Newall and Tom Yohe, based on an idea by David McCall, Book by Scott Ferguson, George Keating and Kyle Hall, Music and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, Kathy Mandry, George Newall and Tom Yohe

Auditions involve acting (readings from script), singing (bring music for one piece of your choice, accompanist provided), and movement (dress comfortably).

Roles for 4 men and 3 women; directors may consider cross-gender casting
-      TOM: a new teacher nervous about his first day of classes (early to mid-20s)
The following characters are part of Tom's personality.
-      GEORGE: Tom's romantic side- caring and in control.
-      DORI: The goofy side- silly and playful.
-      SHULIE: The sweet side- genuine, an ingénue, loves math.
-      JOE: The cool side- laid back and fun loving.
-      DINA: The mature side- thoughtful and grounded.
A pop culture phenomenon comes to the musical stage as part of LCC’s Summer Stage Under the Stars festival June 19-23 at 7 p.m. each night in the Outdoor Amphitheatre
