Casting Call for 2025 Festival
Riverwalk Theatre is recruiting 10 actors, 4 male and 6 female, to appear in five short plays to be presented at the Emerging Playwrights Festival on Saturday August 2 at Riverwalk Theatre. Each script is 12 pages or less. Two scripts will be staged as full productions, and three will be staged readings. All are original plays written by students who won the 2025 Emerging Playwrights competition.
Twenty roles are involved so actors will potentially play more than 1 role, Actors in the full productions may also have a role in a staged reading. Actors in staged readings may also have roles in more than 1 staged reading.
Roles:
2 males - 30-60, any ethnicity
2 males – 17-35, any ethnicity
1 female - 45-60 any ethnicity
3 females – 18-30 any ethnicity
2 females – 25-45 any ethnicity
Rehearsals will occur Sunday-Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm beginning with a readthrough of all of the plays on Sunday, July 13. Staged readings will have 3 rehearsals before the performances on Saturday, August 2. The full productions will have 12 rehearsals before the performances on August 2.

ALISA: (F22) A young woman, 22 years old, lonely and struggling to get by, who seeks a roommate
MALAIKA: (F20-27) Alisa’s beautiful and charming new roommate, age unknown but appearing in her early twenties, who is not all that she appears
KATYA: (F50) Alisa’s estranged maternal aunt and former guardian, 50 years old
BASIL: (M35-50) A detective investigating a mysterious and brutal double homicide, 40 years old
A LONE WOMAN’S VOICE (3F, 1M) (Staged Reading)
DESIRAE (F25-35) —An unsatisfied housewife who married her husband under peer-pressure. ADAM (M25-35)—An aspiring novelist and loving father. He’s currently a journalist at the local newspaper. SKYE (F 8-12)—A curious child who is mommy’s little girl. JUNE (F30-40)—An adventurous dance photographer who travels the world. She is deeply in love with Desirae.

DUNCAN’S DRAGONTAIL (1F, 3M ) (Staged Reading)
PUB DUNCAN: (M 35-60) A male fairy, about 2-4 inches tall, always wearing his warrior’s garbs and a kilt to protect himself during his (alleged) journeys.
STORY DUNCAN: (M 25-50) A grander version of Pub Duncan, adorned with furs and many layers of armor and other clothing to protect him in battle.
CHARLIE: (M 35-60) A thin, male, gangly fairy. His clothes are always a bit too big for him, and he has an air of intelligence about him.
QUEEN: (F25-40) A wonderful female fairy, her hair is always in braids and her face is concealed by a veil. UNICORN: (M or F) to be played by the same actor as Queen - This screeching, flesh-eating unicorn has blue fur and a pink mane, with a yellow horn and teeth.
DRAGON (M or F) (Stage prop): A massive red dragon, so much bigger than the fairies that just its head barely fits on stage.
