STARLIGHT DINNER THEATRE

8/12-13 - Auditions for the musical Something’s Afoot at Starlight Dinner Theatre will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 12th and 13th at Rising Star Studio of Dance Arts in DeWitt at 7 pm.

There are no plans to hold call-backs. Studio is located at 211 S. Bridge St, downtown DeWitt, right behind Jon E. Arendsen Designs, north of the bridge.

Something’s Afoot will be directed by Kelly Stuible-Clark with Musical Direction by Nicole Martin.
Show dates are October 18, 19, 25, 26 & 27, (27th 2 pm show).

There are roles for 6 men and 4 women.  Rehearsals will start Tuesday, September 3rd. Rehearsals will be Mon-Thurs from 6:30-9:30.

"Something's Afoot is truly a play with music- we're looking for strong voices but even stronger actors. Please bring your best 32 bars (approximately 1 min) of a musical theatre song that shows off your story telling abilities. You'll also read from the script- remember all of the characters do speak in a dialect (either British or Cockney), so we'll ask that you give it a try if you're comfortable.”

LETTIE – Alto w/belt. The saucy maid of the Rancour mansion who is new to the estate and Flint’s object of attraction. She is frightened very easily and becomes anxious at the thought of being alone. Lettie is also known to be greedy and will jump at the sight of money. She is known for her Cockney accent and for speaking her mind.

FLINT – Baritone. The estate caretaker of the Rancour mansion. He is rough around the edges, an attribute that is only amplified by his strong Cockney accent. He is known for stealing small sips from his master’s crystal wine decanter. Although he frivolously flirts with Lettie, he always gets his job done.

CLIVE – Baritone. The butler for the Rancour mansion. He is very punctual and professional in his duties. He is attentive to the cleanliness and upkeep of the mansion and is the supervisor of Lettie and Flint.

HOPE LANGDON – Soprano. The ingénue who is invited to dinner at the Rancour Mansion. She is the only guest who does not have any known connection to Lord Rancour. Hope is an orphan but she inherited a large trust fund to help her through life.

DR. GRAYBURN – Baritone. Lord Rancour’s family doctor. He has been working for Lord Rancour for a long time and knows much about Rancour’s past.

NIGEL RANCOUR – Tenor. The dissolute nephew of Lord Rancour who is considered to be the black sheep of the family. Since Lord Rancour does not have a child of his own, Nigel believes that he is the heir to Rancour’s finances. He will do anything to find Lord Rancour’s will to confirm that he is named the legal heir.

LADY GRACE MANLEY-PROWE – Mezzo. The grande-dame, an older noblewoman from southern France. She is married to a French nobleman, but doesn’t speak French very well. Lady Manley-Prowe married her husband for status, not love, but did have a different lover many years before. The rumor is that she has lost all of her money and is seeking a loan from Lord Rancour.

COL. GILLWEATHER – Baritone. A former military man who fought in Africa, India and Brazil. While on his many adventures he learned about different types of poisons including poisonous gases. Unlike some other military men, the Colonel did not have a woman in every port because of an unfolding love affair back home.

MISS TWEED – Mezzo. An older woman who has come to the mansion at the request of her friend, Lord Rancour. She is an amateur detective who is very quick to pick up small details. In her old age, Miss Tweed loves to paint, and in her younger days she was a nanny.

GEOFFREY – Tenor. A young college student who is on his school’s rowing team. The team was out for a training practice when a storm hit and overturned his boat. While the rest of his team swam to the shore closer to campus, Geoffrey swam towards the Rancour mansion hoping to cross the bridge back to campus. He is an unexpected guest and everyone in the mansion is suspicious of him.

Pippin Audition Advice

For PIPPIN Auditions
7pm Monday and Tuesday June 17-18 at Riverwalk Theatre

Director Meghan Eldred-Woolsey is not nearly as mean as she seems portraying the delightfully evil Velma in Hairspray - but she does have some rules/advice:

At the auditions on the 17th and 18th we will be singing AND dancing. Please bring sheet music for your audition piece in the style of the show, preferably in a binder that is easy for our music director, John Dale, to play from. Also, feel free to bring a change of clothing/shoes for the dance portion.

Please only come to one night of auditions so we are respectful of everyone’s time. All auditionees will be divided into two groups and will sing or dance, then switch.

Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, June 19th at the theatre. At callbacks you will be asked to sing a song and read from the show. Callback emails will go out Tuesday evening and will include sheet music. If you do NOT get called back it does NOT mean you are not being cast!

We will not begin rehearsals until early July. Please send me a personal message if you have additional questions! Thank you!

Pippin Auditions

6/8/2019

Auditions for "Pippin" will be held on June 17&18 at 7pm at Riverwalk.
Director Meghan Eldred-Woolsey is very excited and hoping for a good turnout!

PIPPIN Auditions -

Directed by Meghan Eldred-Woolsey,
Assistant Directed by Michele Booher-Purosky
Music Directed by John Dale Smith
 Choreographed by Amanda Tollstam

Audition Dates: Mon & Tues, June 17 & 18@ 7pm
Production Dates: 8/29-9/1 & 9/5-9/8, 2019
With an infectiously unforgettable score from the composer of Wicked and Godspell, Stephen Schwartz, Pippin is the story of one young man's journey to be extraordinary. Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power. In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day.

Leading Player: The ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. Excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.
Gender: Any Vocal range: Db3-Ab4

Pippin: Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo.
Gender: male Age: 20 to 30 Vocal range: G2-Ab4

Charles: Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.
Gender: male Age: 50 to 60 Vocal: G2-E4

Lewis: Pippin's half-brother. Gender: male Age: 20-30

Fastrada: Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.
Gender: female Age: 35 to 50 Vocal range: A3-F5

Berthe: Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.
Gender: female Age: 60-70 Vocal range: E3-C5

Catherine: A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.
Gender: female Age: 25 to 35 Vocal range: F#3-Db5

Theo: Catherine's son. Gender: male Age: 6 to 10

Ensemble: Charlemagne’s Army, Monks, Nobility, Peasants, The Players

Please prepare an audition piece in a similar musical style. Be prepared to learn a dance combination and to read from the script. Perusal scripts available at the RWT office [email protected]. 482-5700
