Actors for Michigan State Police scenario

7/27/2014

I hope this works - with the map and list of scenarios attachments; if you have questions, contact Trooper Doehring at [email protected] by phone at 810-732-1111 - not me, as this is all I know.

Hello, Jane –

I’m wondering if you could distribute this information asap to your actor’s list.  The Michigan State Police needs actors for various police training scenarios.  Most immediately, we need teens (or age 10+) as well as adults for a scenario on Tuesday morning.  The rest of the sessions over the next couple of months will be for adults.  Anyone who would like to participate should “sign up” before Tuesday, by contacting Trooper Doehring at [email protected] by phone at 810-732-1111.

Thanks very much,
Mike

Subject: Actors for Michigan State Police Scenario

FYI: According to Trooper Doehring, this Tuesday session is recommended for ages 10 and up.  For adult actors interested in future scenarios as well, I’m attaching a document that has the current list of dates planned for upcoming events.  --Mike

Actors Needed – Morning of July 29

Volunteers – No prior experience necessary

Location: Michigan State Police Training Academy - the east side of Canal Road just north of Lansing Road (use Exit 98A from I-96).  Park on the east side of the building – there is a large parking lot on the east side of the service drive, just south of the Hazardous Materials Training Facility and dog kennels.

Description: The Michigan State Police (MSP) has a school of recruits who are training to become troopers.  This is the 127th Trooper Recruit School, and in recent years, in order to enhance the variety and realism of the training, MSP has made use of local volunteers to serve as actors within scenarios that test these recruits’ training in various police operations.  A wide variety of scenarios make use of these actors, but on July 29, the “Retail Fraud” scenario tests the recruits’ abilities with an under-aged suspect.  Therefore, there is a need for juvenile actors to volunteer to help with training for this scenario.  (Other training scenarios are oriented toward adults, such as those involving traffic violations, domestic violence, weapon violations, etc.)

Parents and other adults are welcome to participate in this scenario at the same time.

This is not only a very helpful volunteer activity that supports our Michigan State Police in their training of new recruits, but it is fun and educational for the volunteers who participate.  If you haven’t seen the MSP Training Academy or other facilities, or if you have an interest in police training and procedures, then this provides a unique opportunity to receive a behind-the-scenes participatory experience!

The activities are scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, July 29, 2014.  Volunteers are encouraged to show up a bit early (7:30am to 7:45am) to get familiar with the basic information and guidelines for the scenario, so that the scenarios themselves can be under way by 8am.  These scenarios tend to be completed well before noon, and thus involve only a few hours.

To volunteer or inquire for more information, you may contact Trooper Rick Doehring at (810) 732-1111, or send him an e-mail at [email protected].

Subject: Upcoming Scenario

Hello Everyone,

We are still in  need of actors for our Retail Fraud Scenario on Tuesday, July, 29.  The scenario is from 7am-noon.  We would really like to have juveniles for this scenario as it involves a shoplifter.

Thanks for all your help.

Rick
