LCC auditions for its Fall Mainstage production, Belle Moral, by Anne Marie MacDonald, directed by Mary Job,will be held
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28TH AND THURSDAY, AUGUST 29TH
7-10 PM in DART Auditorium

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Perusal Scripts with be available at the Reference Desk in the LCC Library.

SYNOPSIS OF THE PLAY
Following her father’s death, amateur scientist Pearl MacIsaac struggles to discover the secret of her family’s past, which her father had been kept hidden with the help of the family doctor. Set in Scotland in 1899, this dark and redemptive gothic comedy is a wonderful mash-up of Gothic thriller (complete with a secret in the attic!) a science play about Darwinian evolution and eugenics, and a debate about rationalism vs. romanticism, all tossed together with a very modern comic feminist sensibility!

CHARACTERS:

Pearl MacIssac – 32, an amateur scientist. Rational to a fault, headstrong.

Flora MacIssac- 50’s or early 60’s. Pearl’s aunt and the housekeeper of Belle Moral. Warm-hearted, but superstitious. A lady with secrets.

Victor MacIssac – 27, Pearl’s younger brother. Flighty, artistic and emotional, with a fear of dogs. As headstrong as Pearl.

Dr. Seamus Reid – Late 50’s, early 60’s. A scientist and doctor, a friend of Pearl’s late father and Pearl’s scientific mentor. Rational, patriarchal. Another keeper of secrets.

Mr. Abbott – 30’s, a solicitor. Prim and proper in manner, but with depths. Enamored with Pearl.

Young Farleigh – An elderly servant and household fixture. Moves very slowly.

Wee Farleigh – his grandson, a very handsome young servant.

Claire MacIssac – 27, A reclusive young woman, with an interesting physical trait. Victor’s missing twin sister. (Must be able to move well.)

The Jackal – A supernatural presence. (Double cast with Wee Farleigh.)

The Bride – A mysterious figure that haunts Pearl’s dreams. (Double cast with Claire)

Given the modern sensibility of this play, actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Please note that Pearl, Victor and Claire have hair in various shades of red, so actors auditioning for those roles must be willing to dye their hair (preferred) or, where necessary, wear a wig. All the characters speak with some degree of a Scottish accent. Flora, Claire, Young Farleigh and Wee Farleigh have the strongest Scots accent. (Coaching will be provided!)

Performs November 1-2, 8-10, 8pm Fri/Sat; 2pm Sunday the second weekend only,Dart Auditorium - LCC
