1/3 - NUNSENSE AUDITIONS

11/27/2013

Dan Pappas will direct “Nunsense –The Mega-Musical Version" for Starlight Dinner Theatre. James Geer is the music director, Jan Ross is assistant director, Fran Norton is the choreographer and Susan DeRosa is the producer. Show dates are May 9, 10, 14 15, 2014.

Auditions are Friday, January 3 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 4 at 2 p.m. at Rising Star Studio of Dance Arts, 526 Lentz Court. Come prepared to sing, do some movement and read from the script. A song from the show is not required. James Geer will provide accompaniment at auditions. Rising Star Studio is off W. St. Joe, approximately ½ mile east of Waverly Road (where Home Depot and Ollie's are). On the corner of Lentz Court and W. St. Joe is a small UAW hall. If you get to the Bingo Hall and Rosemary Street, you have gone too far. Once you turn onto Lentz Court, it is the fifth building on the left.

The original show has been supersized with several additional characters including some men. None of the 12 available roles has been precast. There are five major roles: Reverend Mother Mary Regina (Mother Superior), Sister Mary Hubert (Mistress of Novices), Sister Robert Anne (Streetwise nun from Brooklyn), Sister Mary Amnesia (Nun who lost her memory), Sister Mary Leo (Nun who wants to be a ballerina).

The updated version features Sister Julia, Child of God (Convent Cook) who can be played by either a woman or by a man impersonating Julia Child. Additional roles are Brother or Sister Brendan, Sister Mary Luke (Novice), Sister Mary Wilhelm (Convent Nurse), Father or Sister Mary Virgil (Sister Leo’s Brother or Sister), and two members who could be Nuns, Brothers, Priests, or H.S. Students.

Rehearsals will start the last week in March. We will rehearse 4 nights a week. The night off will be determined by availability of rehearsal space and cast. Email [email protected] for additional information and perusal copy of the script.

NOTE: upon receiving the scripts, we learned there is an updated edition which changes the Multiple Character roles a bit as listed here. The “new” script is fundamentally the same insightful, funny return to those family road trips we so “fondly” remember. If you’ve read the previous version you’ll still be prepared for auditions.  (If you would like a perusal script emailed, contact [email protected])

Don Browning – Adult writer, young boy in flashbacks. Must be believable as a child and not come across as an adult playing a child.

Dad – Don’s dad…appears in flashbacks as a younger dad and at times appears to Don as “ghost” dad reacting to Don’s thoughts. He is your “typical” dad that only wants the best for his children, but is not always accurate on what that should be.

Mom – Don’s mom, past and present…younger and older. She is always somewhere in between Dad and the kids. She loves her family very much.

Sis – Don’s sister, past and present…adult and young girl. As an adult, she knows how to push Don’s buttons. This is something she perfected as a young girl. As with Don, she must be believable as a child.

Multiple Character Guy #1 – 6 roles:
Bob – hog farmer, missing a hand
Uncle Phil – Don’s uncle, means well, but can be “too much”
Grandpa – Don’s grandfather
Joe Hoefingers – a scary farmer with a hoe
Amish Guy – Amish peddler at a flea market, could be a scam
Hotel Clerk – Unhappy old man

Multiple Character Guy #2 – 6 roles:
Fruit Cart Guy – man with a roadside produce stand
Cart Chaser – very excited grocery store employee
Jack Singer – Don’s childhood friend, now professor, lectures, is oblivious
Civil War Guy – Civil War performer/narrator, not necessarily good at it
Fred – auto mechanic, works on Don’s car, not too bright
Wayne – stoic waiter with mullet, think of Lurch on the “Adams Family”

Multiple Character GAL #1 – 5 roles:
Judy – hog farmer Bob’s wife, almost a philosopher
Aunt Phyllis – Don’s aunt, every bit “as much” as Uncle Phil
Grandma – Don’s grandmother, known for her “krispie” treats
Amish Gal – Amish peddler at a flea market, could be a scam
Drunk Lady – patron in a hotel, very emotional

Multiple Character GAL #2 – 6 roles:
Fruit Cart Gal – woman helping man with a roadside produce stand
Shopping Lady – woman in grocery store parking lot, a bit frantic
Museum Assistant – Civil War Guy’s assistant, a bit ditzy
Jamie – female auto mechanic, helps Fred, can we say “butch?”
Hotel Maid – no lines, works with Hotel Clerk, not happy
Jessie – a VERY talkative waitress

NOTE: The script is written for six actors, but we are using eight. The playwrights give options for casting the MULTIPLE CHARACTER roles as you wish. The director selected to split them between two actors each.

11/24-25 - LCC SPRING THEATRE AUDITIONS

11/22/2013

6 pm Sunday, Nov. 24 – Black Box Theatre (Gannon Building 168)
7 pm Monday, Nov. 25 – Dart Auditorium

Auditioning for:
Prelude to a Kiss, directed by Andy Callis – spring mainstage February 14-23
Dylan, directed by John Lennox – spring black box March 14-22

Each play has roles for 4 females and 7 males. Auditions will be cold readings from the script and for Dylan, a 1-minute monologue of serious nature. Come either night; audition for one or both plays

Prelude to a Kiss: a romantic comedy.  At Peter and Rita's wedding, a mysterious old man insists on kissing the bride.  While honeymooning, Peter gradually realizes that the woman by his side is not his wife.  The wedding kiss caused Rita's soul and the old man's to change places.  Peter must track down the old man and free his young love's spirit trapped in an aging and diseased body before it's too late.

Dylan: This is a story of the life of Dylan Thomas. It is an exploration of self-destruction. It notes how our visionaries seem to destroy themselves and our culture emulates them while simultaneously pushing them towards that destruction. While it is predominantly the story of the life of Dylan Thomas, it is also a tale of the waste of a life. Dylan notes: "I’ve betrayed the good gift, the good gift".
