1/11-12 - Riverwalk AUDITIONS for Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike

12/31/2014

SUNDAY, JAN. 11 AND MONDAY, JAN. 12, 2015 @ 7PM.
PRODUCTION DATES -MARCH 19 - 29, 2015

Vanya and Sonia are middle-aged siblings, stuck in gently fading, if comfortable, lives of boredom and what ifs, punctuated only by moments of frenzied (and very funny) sibling rivalry, and the divinations of their cleaning lady, who fancies herself the local seer. When their glamorous sister Masha, an actress, returns home with a boy toy in tow and big plans for the farmhouse that has been their shelter and prison their lives will take an unexpected turn.
In a play that is both a tribute to and a spoof of the classic plays of Anton Chekhov, Christopher Durang shows both a heart as well as the biting wit and satire for which he is known.
2013 winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Play

Characters:
VANYA – 50’s. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia. It’s hard to tell if his tendency to be a looker-on rather than a participant in life is natural or adaptive behavior.
SONIA – Early 50’s, Vanya’s adopted sister. Lives with Vanya in a perpetual state of discontent at life passing her by.
MASHA – Vanya’s sister, Mid 50’s but looks much younger. Glamorous and commercially successful actress of B movies who has been gallivanting around the world.
SPIKE – 29 years old or younger. An aspiring actor and Masha’s new companion. He is sexy, self-absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly (to the point of exhibitionism.)
NINA – Early 20’s.Lovely would-be actress who is visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Star struck, earnest and energetic.
CASSANDRA – Cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, any race.
Come prepared to read from the script. Scripts available at the theatre office, or by e-mail. Contact Mike Siracuse at the theatre office Tues-Fri, 10am-5:30pm at 482-5700

About the musical: The folly of the 21st century collides with the madness of Wonderland in this rockin’ new musical adaptation that remains fairly faithful to Lewis Carroll’s original tale.  The twist?  Alice is a texting, tweeting and Googling girl of the modern digital era, yet she finds herself in the Wonderland of old.  With all of the characters you know and love including the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts, this musical imagines a present-day Alice encountering the Wonderland so many of us treasure.  Meanwhile, the younger generation will appreciate and relate to the many references to texting and social networking.  And the contemporary sounding new score by beloved composer Bill Francouer and lyricist Scott DeTurk will delight all. A sharply told, crisply paced ride, this quality adaptation has been praised for its humor, artistic modern style and appeal to both children and adults.

Homegrown Productions will hold auditions for the mystery-comedy Done to Death

12/31/2014

1/5-6- Homegrown Productions will hold auditions for the mystery-comedy Done to Death at 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday, January 5 and 6.  The plot focuses on five has-been mystery fiction writers who are brought to the mysterious Vulture's Vault to collaborate on a new murder mystery TV series. Soon real murders start to happen and hilarity ensues.

The play is a parody of the murder mystery genre as each writer has his/her own style to try to solve the murders.

Auditions, rehearsals and performances take place at the Wilson Center Auditorium, 101 W. Cass St., St. Johns.  Performance dates are February 20, 21, 27, 28 and March 1, 2015.

Casting calls for eight males and eight females of various ages (18 – 80).  Some doubling is possible.

The five writers are:
Jessica and Whitney Olive - A sophisticated, middle-aged couple who write charming, "pleasant murders.” The two and their stories are a parody of Nick and Nora from The Thin Man.
Mildred Z. Maxwell - A friendly older woman who specializes in tough, detailed murder mysteries. A parody of Agatha Christie and Miss Marple.
Brad Benedict - The youngest of the authors, he writes "modern" high tech spy mysteries akin to Ian Fleming/James Bond. In contrast, he is mild-mannered and shy.
Rodney Duckton - The oldest of the authors, he is very energetic and enthusiastic. He initially wrote old silent horror movies before moving on to hard-hitting detective novels similar to The Maltese Falcon.
Supporting characters are:
Jason Summers - A nervous business man in charge of the TV show the authors are writing.
Jane - A young and pretty maid who may not be as naive as she seems.
Gregory - The butler who speaks with an Eastern European accent and has a very mysterious air.
Other characters come and go, may or may not be real and serve to keep the audience guessing.
