1/6-7 - Charlotte Performing Arts Center in Conjunction with Andromeda Community Theatre and Eaton Area Senior Center Announce Open Auditions for Love Letters

Charlotte Performing Arts Center in conjunction with the Andromeda Community Theatre is proud to announce Open Auditions for the upcoming production of Love Letters by A. R. Gurney.

Auditions will take place on January 6th and 7th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at your Charlotte Performing Arts Center.  We will be casting 7 males and 7 females ranging in age from elementary school to retiree for this readers theatre style production.    A complete copy of the script is available for perusal at the Charlotte Library.  Copies of the audition packet are available online at www.AndromedaPlayers.org, www.facebook.com/AndromedaCommunityTheatre, or www.charlotteperformingartscenter.com

"Have you ever loved someone who touched every part of your life? Have you ever loved someone across time and distance? Share in the story of Melissa and Andrew as they grow together in life and love through the power of the pen. A. R. Gurney's beautifully haunting and touchingly funny play, LOVE LETTERS. LOVE LETTERS tells the story of a 50-year correspondence between shy, flighty Melissa Garner and solid, ambitious Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Told through the reading of their letters, LOVE LETTERS was a finalist for the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and has been performed world wide in countless languages.”
 
This production will happen for two Valentine’s Day performances (February 14, 2016) at 2pm and 6pm.  The show will be occur at the Eaton Area Senior Center.  Tickets and menu for this Dinner Theatre production will be available shortly after the first of the year.
 
Love Letters is being directed by Jeffrey P. Hayes (Charlotte Performing Arts Center) and Assistant Director Frank Boston (Andromeda Community Theatre).

12/15-16 - Auditions for the Owosso Community Players production of  “The Little Mermaid” will be held December 15th and 16th at the Lebowsky Center, 122 E. Main Street. This family-friendly musical is based on the 1989 Disney film about a curious mermaid—Ariel—who dreams of living on land after falling for a handsome human prince.
 
Boys age 10–15 are invited to audition for the role of Flounder. Sign-in begins at 5 o’clock on both days with Flounder auditions beginning at 5:30.
 
For all other roles, check-in is 6:00 o’clock with auditions beginning promptly at 6:30. Parts are available for men and women of high school age and older. For a detailed description of the various available roles, visit mtishows.com.
 
Everyone auditioning should come prepared to sing a (short) song of their choice. No songs from the show, please! Bring sheet music if available. Audition Dates:  Sun & Mon, December 13 &14, 2015, at 7 pm.
 
Production Dates:  February 11-21, 2016
 
A charming rogue finagles a short sentence in an airy mental institution to avoid a term in prison.  He leads the other “quirky” inmates in a revolt for TV privileges and clashes with the formidable head nurse. Consequences follow. Set in the early 1960’s.
 
Cast of Characters:
 
The Patients:

Chief Bromden – An imposing man of mixed Native American and white heritage. Pretends to be a deaf mute in order to protect himself from the forces of “The Combine”

Dale Harding – A college-educated, handsome (if somewhat effeminate) man, who everyone knows has a very sexy wife at home

Billy Bibbit –A stuttering, possibly suicidal man thanks to a dominating mother

Scanlon – A balding, sulking man

Cheswick – A chubby little man – turbulent one moment to cringing the next

Martini –An eager but delusional Italian

Ruckley – Once a powerful man, now blank-faced and empty-eyed

Randle P. McMurphy – A gambling ‘bad boy. A charming con man with a devilish grin.

The Staff:

Aide Warren and Aide Williams – Men hired to assist with patients and help maintain order on the ward


Dr. Spivey – Resident Psychiatrist - Pipe-smoking, glasses-fumbling, easily influenced man


Nurse Ratched – The Head Nurse – definitely IN CHARGE! Pretty beneath the hard exterior, can go from screaming for control - to in control in 0-60 seconds.


Nurse Flinn – The pretty nurse who gives out the pills. A ditzy, but efficient(ish) catholic girl


Aide Turkle – Elderly night watchman
 
Others:


Candy Starr – A prostitute with a ‘heart of gold’. “A real dish”


Sandra – Candy’s friend – An ‘earthy wench’

Auditions for the musical “The Little Mermaid” will be held December 15 and 16 and the Lebowsky Center. (114 E Main St, Ste 222, Owosso, Michigan 48867)
The musical is based on the 1989 Disney film about a curious mermaid, Ariel, who dreams of living on land after falling for a handsome human prince.

Boys age 10-15 are invited to audition for the role of Flounder. Sign-in for Flounder auditions only will begin at 5 p.m. on both December 15 and 16, with auditions starting at 5:30.

Other roles will be filled by men and women of high school age and up. Sign-in begins at 6 p.m., with auditions at 6:30. For a detailed description of the various available roles, see http://mtishows.com/disneys-the-little-mermaid.

All who audition should prepare a brief vocal selection. No songs from the show, please. Bring sheet music if available. A brief dance/movement combination will be taught, so those auditioning should wear appropriate shoes and clothing.

Character Breakdown
Ariel: A mermaid and King Triton’s youngest daughter. She is obsessed with everything about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Hardheaded, naive, and emotional, but also kind hearted.

Prince Eric: A human monarch who has no interest of taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature. After Ariel saves his life, he becomes obsessed with finding her and hearing her voice once more
Grimsby: Prince Eric’s British guardian. Droll, stuffy, and constantly urging Eric towards his royal duties, specifically marriage.

Flounder: A fish and smitten with Ariel, his best friend. Rambunctious but cautious, fearful of the dangers that lurk in and above the water.

Scuttle: A disheveled seagull and expert in human artifacts. Loudmouthed, optimistic, and a bit ignorant, despite his supposed expertise.

King Triton: King of the Sea and Ariel’s father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans.

Sebastian: A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can’t bring himself to stand in Ariel’s way.

Flotsam: An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear.
Jetsam: An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear.

Ursula: The banished Sea Witch and sister of King Triton. Supposedly spurned at childhood, she will use whatever method necessary to steal the kingdom and claim it as her own. Malevolent, calculating, and deceptive.

Chef Louis: The French palace chef, diabolical and violent. A culinary perfectionist with an affinity for blades, seafood in particular.

Ensemble: Crew Members (Pilot, Sailors); Sea Creatures; Mersisters (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana); Gulls; Maids; Chefs; Animals; Princesses.
