1/5-6 - THE DOWNEASTER THEATRE TO HOST AUDITIONS FOR “LUCKY’S”

The Downeaster Theatre (TDT) will be holding open auditions for its upcoming production of "Lucky’s" Jan. 5 and 6.

“Lucky’s” is the story of a bar and the people that love it. The first performance introduces the audience to some of the main players: Bartender Pat is at his wit’s end when Barbara, the owner, tells him Lucky’s is about to go out of business. Enter freshly-fired Event Planner Tess, who really needs a drink… and a little luck.

Once a month performances of one-act original scripts with recurring cast members. Actors will be paid a small stipend per performance and audience members get to vote on what will happen during the next month’s performance.

Community members 18 and up can audition for a part in The Downeaster’s latest production on Fri., Jan. 5 from 7-9:30 p.m. or Sat., Jan. 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Downeaster Theatre, 1120 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Lansing, MI. Those auditioning need only to attend one of the audition sessions.

“I’m looking forward to presenting something unique and interactive to the community” said Executive Artistic Director, Kathryn Willis.

Community members are encouraged to mark their calendars for the “Lucky’s” production, which will be performing at The Downeaster Theatre on TBA Sundays, from Feb.-Aug. of 2018. Learn more at www.thedowneastertheatre.com

“It is the mission of the Downeaster Theatre to encourage, educate, and entertain people of all ages and walks of life. We are committed to challenging ourselves and our community in a non-discriminatory environment, and growing as individuals through our work in theatre. This crew, this family, will hold together and support each other, come hell or high water.”

MID MICHIGAN FAMILY THEATRE AUDITIONS FOR KIDS and ADULTS

1/8-9 - Auditions for Unhappily Ever After, the Musical
Monday, January 8 and Tuesday, January 9, 2018

Please arrive by 6:30 and plan to stay until dismissed by the director. (Usually no later than 8:00 p.m.)
2/42 Community Building (next door to 2/42 Community Church)
2630 Bennett Road
Okemos, MI 48864

About the play: A counselor has opened an office to see how various fairy tale characters are getting along.  He quickly discovers that nobody has lived ’happily ever after’ at all!  Sleeping Beauty will do nothing but nap, the Frog Prince refuses to give up his amphibian ways and nothing will pry Cinderella away from her beloved cinders.  The counselor sets about making everything right again, with equally disastrous results.  Added to the fractured fairy tale fun are five catchy musical numbers, cameo roles for a chorus of fairy tale characters and plenty of silliness for everybody involved!

LCC AUDITIONS FOR SUMMER-UNDER-THE-STARS outdoor show.
1/12-13 - 3-6 pm Fri.; 7-10 pm Sat. AUDITIONS for Treasure Island by L. Don Swartz, directed by John Lennox (to perform at LCC Summer Under the Stars 2018) - Auditions in Black Box Theatre, 1422 Gannon Building - LCC
Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson

7 W / 13 M (Less with Doubling)

Approximate Playing Time:  95 minutes

L. Don Swartz sticks to the heart of the novel, capturing on stage all the drama and excitement of this beloved classic by Robert Louis Stevenson.  When an old drunken pirate, Billy Bones takes up residence at the Admiral Bow Inn, a rowdy seaside tavern frequented by pirates, sea hags and thieves, Jim Hawkins the inn keeper’s young son, gains the key to a chest that holds the map to buried treasure. Dr. Livesey, a family friend, helps Jim gain the support of Madame Trelawney, a wealthy widow who agrees to finance the voyage to recover the treasure. Hawkins, Dr. Livesey, Madame Trelawney, her servant Mr. Redruth and Captain Smollett set sail on their ship, the Hispaniola unaware that Long John Silver himself has joined the crew as a ship’s mate.  He and a gnarly band of pirates also posing as legitimate crew conspire to take over the ship, kill its rightful passengers and steal the treasure.

RIVERWALK AUDITIONS

1/7-8 - Lily, the Felon’s Daughter
Melodrama by Tom Taggart
Directed by Susan Chmurynsky
Auditions: Sun. & Mon., Jan. 7&8, 2018, 7 pm.
Shows: March 15-25, 2018

Lily Fairweather - Pure as the driven snow. Taken in as an infant by Betsy and Jonas
Compton - Our hero. Rather weak willed, he is led astray by the villain.
Betsy Fairweather - Compton’s mother. A gentle soul.
Craven Sinclair - A villain right down to his black mustache.
Jonas - A business man and Compton’s father.
Ophelia - An outspoken suffragette.
Lord Monty - He loves Ophelia. Has a cheesy English accent.
Robyn Steele - Just released from prison he lives up to his name.
Marie - The French maid. Another cheesy accent.
Mrs. Kingsley - A middle aged Puritan (may double as)
Mrs. Bloodgood - The cruel landlady.
Ages flexible.

This is a quintessential old-timey melodrama spoof/homage to the over-the-top theatre of yester-year. Sue is looking for auditioners ready to leap into that exaggerated, sensationalized, or overemotional style of acting and have fun with it. This show is dedicated to the late, great Winifred Olds, who directed melodramas years ago at Lansing Civic Players. (I’m auditioning for the roles she could/would have played - Jane)

Doors will open for sign-in at 6 p.m. with auditions beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be eight performances from February 23 to March 4.

Those who audition will be asked to sing a prepared selection, preferably with sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.  All those who audition will be asked to learn a short dance combination and may be asked to read some sides.

Contact Garrett Bradley at [email protected] for any additional questions.

Belle: A vibrant, intelligent girl with beauty, who wants more out of the life than an ordinary existence. She is optimistic, fun-loving, caring, and eager to experience life.

Beast: A Prince transformed into a terrifying beast for his lack of compassion. He is hot-tempered and commanding, but has a warm, loving heart buried far beneath his gruff exterior.

Maurice: Belle’s loving, eccentric father. A child at heart and inventor in his own world.

Cogsworth: A tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock and the head of the Beast’s household. He is uptight, strict, and punctual but also hard-working, faithful, and thorough.

Mrs. Potts: A warm-hearted, maternal enchanted teapot. She is loyal, caring, and playful.

Lumiere: A suave, debonair enchanted candelabra. He is a loyal and steadfast servant.

Chip: An enchanted teacup and Mrs. Potts’ darling little boy. He is innocent, playful, and bright-eyed. Gender: male

Babette: A saucy, enchanted feather-duster, and the object of Lumiere’s affections. She is the playful, gorgeous, seductive French maid. Gender: female

Madame De La Grande Bouche: A former opera diva-turned-enchanted wardrobe. She has a caring, refined, larger than life personality.

Lefou: Gaston’s bumbling sidekick. He is loyal, energetic, and optimistic, but not quite the brightest guy. Gender: male

Monsieur D’arque: The scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum. He is a dark, sinister villain who aides Gaston in his plot to marry Belle.
