1/24-25 - AUDITIONS for WAIT UNTIL DARK

Thriller by Frederick Knott
Directed by Rita Deibler

Auditions:  Sun & Mon,  Jan. 24 & 25, 7 pm.

Production Dates: March 31 - April 10, 2016

A Broadway hit, this masterfully constructed play moves from one moment of suspense to another as it builds toward an electrifying, breathstopping, final scene. The tense thriller features a blind woman trapped in her apartment, terrorized by a trio of thugs.

Cast of Characters:

Mike Talman - Professional conman and has spent time in jail. Tall (at least taller than Suzy) appearing between 30 and 45 years of age. He must be likeable, seem sincere but has a dark and ruthless streak. He has to carry a major portion of the show.

Sgt. Carlino - Professional conman. Not as likeable as Mike, he’s a thug, perhaps a little older than Mike. Nervous and desperate for the money, he follows Mike’s lead. At some points he must be able to evoke sympathy from the audience. His character offers more potential for comedic moments than the others, rather like a character Peter Lorre might play.

Harry Roat, Jr. - Professional conman, the leader. Likely older than Mike and Carlino but he plays varying characters in this con so must be versatile. Dark and sinister, he’s only interested in himself and will do anything for the pay day. He is capable of murder. We should be afraid of him.

Suzy Hendrix - Blinded in an accident as an adult, Suzy is still adjusting to her blindness, late twenties to mid thirties in age. Suzy is likeable, naive with an air of innocence. She struggles to be as independent as she used to be but must rely on her husband for a great deal and this is difficult for her to accept.

Sam Hendrix - A photographer, about the same age as Suzy perhaps a little older. While he is only in a few scenes, the audience must still trust him, he should be friendly and cheerful.

Gloria - Between 9 and15, she lives upstairs and is paid to assist Suzy with chores and shopping. Living with a mother more interested in dating than being a mother, Gloria has grown independent and temperamental. She seeks attention/approval from Sam as a father figure. She helps Suzy outwit the conmen.

(2) Policemen - They can be men or women; they only appear in the final scene. Perhaps they assist with props and scene shifts. Their ages can be anywhere from 25-50; they should have the quick and efficient movements of investigative officers.

Please prepare a brief MONOLOGUE and be ready to read from the script.
Perusal scripts are available at the Riverwalk office, Tuesday - Friday, 10 am - 5:30 pm. Call 517-482-5700 to check availability or request a scanned copy: [email protected]

A charming rogue finagles a short sentence in an airy mental institution to avoid a term in prison.  He leads the other “quirky” inmates in a revolt for TV privileges and clashes with the formidable head nurse. Consequences follow. Set in the early 1960’s.

Cast of Characters:

The Patients:

Chief Bromden – An imposing man of mixed Native American and white heritage. Pretends to be a deaf mute in order to protect himself from the forces of “The Combine”

Scanlon – A balding, sulking man

Cheswick – A chubby little man – turbulent one moment to cringing the next

Martini –An eager but delusional Italian

Dr. Spivey – Resident Psychiatrist - Pipe-smoking, glasses-fumbling, easily influenced man

Nurse Ratched – The Head Nurse – definitely IN CHARGE! Pretty beneath the hard exterior, can go from screaming for control - to in control in 0-60 seconds.

Nurse Flinn – The pretty nurse who gives out the pills. A ditzy, but efficient(ish) catholic girl

Aide Turkle – Elderly night watchman

Others:

Candy Starr – A prostitute with a ‘heart of gold’. “A real dish”
