This is Director/Producer Jane Rosemont’s inspiring/depressing/fascinating/entertaining life story of Jim Hoffmaster, foster child and one-time actor in the Lansing area who left to pursue an acting career in L.A. in spring of 2001. You may remember him as one of the two bar-flies in Shameless on HBO. Note: you do NOT have to know Jim personally to appreciate this film. It is a creatively edited, artistically composed hour and a half that has universal human appeal.
The film sheds light on some dark subjects, not only life in foster care, but child abuse, and self-harm — but all presented in a tasteful way, where I would feel comfortable inviting young teens to see it. It is a thought provoking hour and a half — and, as an extra bonus — I, myself make a brief appearance as one of Jim’s friends from back-when — and there are featured songs from local favorites “Tell Yo Mama” and Tom Heideman. Of course, I’m prejudiced, but I enjoyed it even more, seeing it a second time.
Shows at 6:15 pm every day through Thursday, Feb. 2
