One thing is not in question, ALL of the actresses (and one actor) were top notch, managing to feel “real” and not caricatures though each represented a different “type” or point of view. Director Lyn Freeman led the stellar cast of Stephanie Banghart, Grace Rosen, Amy Brainerd, Erin Hoffman, Devin Brant and Heath Sartorius though the interwoven stories of five bridesmaids, escaping to the bedroom of the sister of the bride before/during the wedding reception.
The script is irreverent, and at least PG in its subject matter, touching on some deep issues and pain, while also providing much wry humor and celebrating the power of women’s friendship. It revels in romantic complications and some cynical man-bashing, but holds out hope with the arrival of “bad boy/good boy”? usher, Tripp (Heath). Maybe not all romantic/sexual cynicism is warranted?
Note that the venue requests all audience members to remain masked throughout the show. There are no concessions sold, and the post-show lobby meet-and-greet is temporarily cancelled in an effort to keep safe distances.
Five Women Wearing the Same Dress continues through September 19. Tickets and info at https://lebowskycenter.com/4002-2/?et_fb=1&PageSpeed=off
