Sadly, no program to refer to, and though the “credits” are included, I could not take notes fast enough to give all appropriate credit for this production, as LCC Performing Arts Beginning and Second Semester students portray more than 60 roles, the ghosts of Spoon River, circa 1905, offering observations and life stories from the grave.
Students recorded themselves on their phones in a variety of locations, with a variety of sound-qualities. Many of these monologues were enhanced by creative settings, some artistically lit with candles, some outdoors — and period costumes (Chelle Peterson). The interspersed music and historic photos add to the period feel of the piece.
It is a disjointed script, but lovely in its contemplative mood and variety of characters. Since each student plays about five or six roles, it is hard to figure out when they are the same person and when they are “new” — but if you let it all wash over you, and don’t fret over the “plot” you will enjoy this poetic creation. It runs an hour and 40 minutes. .
Kudos to director Andy Callis and sound/video editor Carl Peebles.
