Woman In Black (WT)

Williamston Theatre's Woman in Black is a lesson in how to tell a  ghost story. Start with two accomplished actors Aral Gribble and John Seibert, an inspired director Tobin Hissong, and veteran designers  Bartley Bauer (set), Dan Walker (lighting), April Townsend (costumes),  Julia Garlotte (sound), and Michelle Raymond (props). Then allow the  story to unfold--a tragic story of human fallibility, injustice, and  revenge. We are taken on a journey that blends the present and the past,  moving from London to a remote coastal location in northeast England, with the British dialects expertly modulated according to locale. Then  most importantly, we are led into that other dimension, beyond space and  time, where the Woman in Black resides. Or does she?  (2 hours, 1  intermission). I saw this play in London, summer of 1989; you can still see it at the Fortune Theatre, in the West End, where it has been  running for 24 years, for 61 pounds sterling (plus airfare). I highly  recommend Williamston's production.
