Big Jim (Joseph Albright) and his wife Sharon (Emily Sutton-Smith) have different ideas of how to cope, and daughter Lorelai (Katelyn Christine Hodge) struggles with the dreams/practicalities of her own future, coping with school/job and earnest tutor Chuck (Sean McKeon). Grandma Coral (Brenda Lane) does not let persistent smoking and gambling deter her willingness/ability to help. All the actors brought heart and humanity to their roles.
I have recently seen two excellent movies, I, Tonya and The Florida Project. Doublewide somehow reminded me of them, though the plots are very different. They each invite us in to understand the humanity of a social stratum we might otherwise overlook.
Doublewide continues through April 22.
