Auditions are Friday, January 3 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 4 at 2 p.m. at Rising Star Studio of Dance Arts, 526 Lentz Court. Come prepared to sing, do some movement and read from the script. A song from the show is not required. James Geer will provide accompaniment at auditions. Rising Star Studio is off W. St. Joe, approximately ½ mile east of Waverly Road (where Home Depot and Ollie's are). On the corner of Lentz Court and W. St. Joe is a small UAW hall. If you get to the Bingo Hall and Rosemary Street, you have gone too far. Once you turn onto Lentz Court, it is the fifth building on the left.
The original show has been supersized with several additional characters including some men. None of the 12 available roles has been precast. There are five major roles: Reverend Mother Mary Regina (Mother Superior), Sister Mary Hubert (Mistress of Novices), Sister Robert Anne (Streetwise nun from Brooklyn), Sister Mary Amnesia (Nun who lost her memory), Sister Mary Leo (Nun who wants to be a ballerina).
The updated version features Sister Julia, Child of God (Convent Cook) who can be played by either a woman or by a man impersonating Julia Child. Additional roles are Brother or Sister Brendan, Sister Mary Luke (Novice), Sister Mary Wilhelm (Convent Nurse), Father or Sister Mary Virgil (Sister Leo’s Brother or Sister), and two members who could be Nuns, Brothers, Priests, or H.S. Students.
Rehearsals will start the last week in March. We will rehearse 4 nights a week. The night off will be determined by availability of rehearsal space and cast. Email starlightdinnertheatre@yahoo.com for additional information and perusal copy of the script.
