Andromeda Community Theatre (ACT) has announced auditions for our second production of the 2016 season, Lend Me a Tenor by playwright Ken Ludwig. Auditions will be April 8th and 9th at the Charlotte Community Library Spartan room from 6pm-8pm.
Andromeda will be looking to cast 8 adult roles (4Women/ 4 Men) age mid-20’s and up. Community members interested in performing, working stage crew, or volunteering for this production should attend at least one night of Open Auditions. Call backs will be at a later date. No experience is necessary! Synopsis: Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Othello. The star arrives late and, through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he’s dead. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Morelli's Othello costume and fool the audience into thinking he's Il Stupendo. Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume ready to perform. Now two Othellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo. Lend Me a Tenor is screwball comedy that is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter. Lend Me a Tenor will be performed at the Charlotte Senior Center in June. Dates TBD. The director will be Frank Boston who has experience on and off stage. Most recently he was the Assistant Director to Jeff Hayes for Andromeda’s last performance, Love Letters. We welcome him back to direct with open arms. Heather Hipkiss, who directed the production of To Kill a Mockingbird, has many years of experience of acting, directing and all around knowledge of stage and production. She will be supporting Frank, in his directorial debut, as assistant director. Look for Andromeda’s full season which will be announced in next week’s paper.
