A well balanced little orchestra was nestled behind the gauzy blue and green curtains and white pillars. (Music Director/pianist Jeff Richards, with percussion (Jill Malusek), bass (Jack Mumma) , flute (Ellen Hoard) and french horn (Kelly Sandula-Gruner.)
Co-directors Susan DeRosa and Beth Webb led our singers (Marci Balogh, Kelly Bitz, Bob Murrell, Darryl Schmitz and Beth Webb) through their paces, with some gentle choreography by Fran Ludington, known for her patience and creativity with us “non-dancer” dancers. (The instruments pantomime in Honey Bun was fun; not sure if it was choreography or blocking.)
“I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair” by the women, was fun, with a sort of Andrews-sisters vibe; Bob Murrell’s “This Nearly Was Mine” was moving. I particularly enjoyed it when the whole group came together in close harmonies. The final medley is lovely.
Only two shows left, in this special one-weekend-only musical revue at Starlight Dinner Theatre. The Sunday matinee is “dessert only.” You may not be able to reserve food at this late date, but you can always call to reserve or just show up at 7:30 Saturday or 2pm Sunday for “show only”
