Radical Acts of Education is only 25 minutes (not the 60 minutes mentioned in the press release) giving voice to a wide variety of educators, students and parents. Peppermint Artistic Director and former educator Chad Badgero asked them what they had learned during this unique year and what they hoped for the future.
The fast-paced editing makes it more like a conversation than a series of interviews, and it is enlivened by artistic touches in the intro and excerpts from Dewitt HS Theatre Department’s “Covid Stories.”
The various experiences and points of view are thought provoking: challenges of technology, adaptation and creative approaches, social and emotional issues, challenges of patience and burnout, learning about themselves and what education means, the value of in-person eye-contact and “reading the room” that is impossible when most of the students have their cameras off… and more.
This video would be a valuable piece to watch with your own children/grandchildren who are experiencing this virtual-school year. It just might “encourage dialogue” as the mission says. Will we/should we “get back to normal”?
