Director/author Kate Willis has given me permission to “spoil” the plot of the first episode, since each of these performs one-time-only. She appears on stage in a couple fun/silly “interruptions” dealing with tech issues.
Bartender Pat (played with natural exasperation and charm by Isaac Sprague) is at his wits end when owner Barb (well played by new-to-Michigan Gayle Grier) who is hungover and/or drunk and insistently not deaf (though she seems to be wrong about that) reveals to Pat that the bar is going out of business. She leaves (for where? the audience got to vote on that after the show.)
Enter freshly-fired Event Planner Tess, who needs three shots of tequila and the distraction of a new project - an “Event” to save the doomed bar. She is a whirlwind of drunken enthusiasm, brashly played by new-to-me Hope Miller. Mysterious, grizzled, anti-Google/Goggle bar patron, Lucky, is played by the ubiquitous Micheal Hays, fresh (stale?) from his powerful final performance in Buried Child at Riverwalk this afternoon. He is described as an “alcoholic piece of shit” and/or a “wise ass” and we believe it. We also find out he is a ghost.
One of the other “votes” asked of the audience is “How did Lucky die?” We’ll have to come back February 11 to see if our votes/suggestions make it to the stage.
Kate is working on some kind of “previously seen on” summary to catch people up, as she hopes the audience grows as they help thicken the plot.
Future Lucky’d episodes at 8 pm Sunday nights: 2/11, 3/11, 4/15, 5/6, 6/3, 7/22, 8/19
