Confused, lesbian student Emma (sincerely played by Molly Sullivan) unwittingly summons the fabulous fairy godparent Kinsey Scale (flamboyantly played by Vahlaree Aiden Kakela.) They trot out their “gaggle of gays” to transform her boring history class into a testament to the contributions of gays throughout history. (The Gaggle includes Brandon Dinh, Dillon Smith, Jamerra Kaates, Lee Flowers, and Olivia Hines.) There’s a helpful Glossary included in the program listing people and places referenced in the play — helpful to read in advance of the play — so plan to get there early.
Although this is a staged reading and actors hold scripts, Director Paige Tufford has created active blocking and Emily Brannan’s props and Chelle Peterson’s costumes/makeup give it the feel of a “real play.” Vahlaree’s fairy gown, wings and wand enhanced their festive flair — colorful against Gaby Castillo’s versatile white-platform set.
The LCC Black Box is the location for ALL LCC shows this season as Dart Auditorium undergoes an upgrade. This little theatre space is all dressed up with its own lighted marquee on Grand Avenue at the south end of the Gannon Building - and a new, real “box office” window. If you come in from Grand Avenue, you have to go around a corner, past the stage, to the box office. If you park in the Gannon Garage, and walk through the building from north to south end, you’ll pass right by the box office on your way to the Black Box. ONLY TWO MORE SHOWS: 8pm Friday and Saturday
