It’s a variety show, with character skits, videos, impersonations, music… Political, but not too vicious - character-driven humor written by Jeff Garrity, lifelong writer and founder of Capitol Times (1986-99) http://jeffgarrity.com — and both written and performed by Bruce Bennett, comic, pantomimist, director, actor, artist… and Kellie Stonebrook skilled at standup, ventriloquism, acting, impersonations and improv.
This group applies their absurdity in a variety of styles. There are political skits poking fun at the current chaos — Bruce’s definitive performance of Lewis Carroll’s Jaberwocky (which may reflect on today’s politics? or not?) — three prerecorded projected videos featuring Bruce and Kellie —an explanation of the psychology of comedy and jokes in a thought-provolking “Bruce Talk” (a la Ted Talk) — plus two music sets featuring the endearing song-satirist Wally Pleasant. (My favorite was the song about his frustrations with the quagmire that is our health-care/insurance system.)
The Fledge is a community startup incubator (that used to be in Grand Ledge but moved to Lansing 11 months ago) It’s easy to find, a block south of Michigan Avenue. Turn south on Holmes and there is a parking lot right across from the big white converted church building, which is on Eureka. This is where Holmes and Eureka almost meet.
Map and tickets are at the website http://www.aaabsurd.com- and also tickets are $12 at the door. Check it out!
