1/25-27 - THE DOWNEASTER THEATRE TO HOST AUDITIONS FOR THREE PRODUCTIONS

The Downeaster Theatre (TDT) will be holding open auditions for its upcoming spring productions of “The Princess and the Goblin”, “Betrayal”, and “Rabbit Hole” Jan. 25-27.

“The Princess and the Goblin”: Unknown to the court, a band of goblins is digging a tunnel beneath the palace, and one night while the King is away, three creatures break into Princess Irene's room—the vicious Goblin Queen, the meek Goblin King, and their dim-witted son, Harley. The Goblins live in the caves and mines of the Great Mountain, banished there by the Sun People generations ago. To get revenge on their enemies, the Goblins have vowed to kidnap Princess Irene—and Harley plans to marry her. Among those who try to help Irene are Curdie, the young son of a miner, and Irene's great-great-grandmother—who died many years ago.

"Betrayal": The play begins in the present, with the meeting of Emma and Jerry, whose adulterous affair of seven years ended two years earlier. Emma’s marriage to Robert, Jerry’s best friend, is now breaking up, and she needs someone to talk to. The play moves backward in time, from the end of the affair to its beginning, throwing into relief the little lies and oblique remarks that, in this time-reverse, reveal more than direct statements, or overt actions, ever could. Written by Harold Pinter.

"Rabbit Hole": Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day. Written by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Youth 8 -18 can audition for a part in “The Princess and the Goblin”, and adults ages 18 and up can audition for a part in “Betrayal” and/or “Rabbit Hole” Thursday, Jan. 25 and Friday, Jan. 26 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. or Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10 a.m.-noon at The Downeaster Theatre, 1120 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Lansing, MI. Those auditioning need only to attend one of the audition sessions. For those preparing to audition, scripts can be checked out at the TDT office for a $10 deposit. Those interested can also sign up to volunteer backstage for these productions (i.e. makeup, costumes, box office, etc.).

Youth may also attend the $5 audition workshop for “The Princess and the Goblin” Thursday, Jan. 25, 5:30-6:30pm. No pre-registration required.

“Each show is so different, and I’m looking forward to bringing each of them to life” said Executive Artistic Director, Kathryn Willis.

Community members are encouraged to mark their calendars for “The Princess and the Goblin” production, which will be performing at The Downeaster Theatre April 20-29. "Betrayal" and “Rabbit Hole” productions to follow, March 23-April 1 and May 18-27, respectively. Learn more at www.thedowneastertheatre.com

“It is the mission of the Downeaster Theatre to encourage, educate, and entertain people of all ages and walks of life. We are committed to challenging ourselves and our community in a non-discriminatory environment, and growing as individuals through our work in theatre. This crew, this family, will hold together and support each other, come hell or high water.”
