Peppermint Creek Theatre Company is also holding auditions for their 2018-19 season of shows on August 1 & 2, 2018. Auditionees will be seen on a first come, first seen basis, (no RSVP required). Auditionees are asked to bring a headshot and resume if possible, or photos can be taken at the audition. Auditions for the final show, Indecent, will be held September 23; callback and new auditioners welcome.

General Character Breakdown/Information:
Those interested in being considered for the shows below can attend ONE day of auditions and be considered for all of the shows. Further details below:

PREPARATION: Unless otherwise noted, auditions will be cold readings from the script, which will be provided at the audition.
Shakespeare in Love
Casting: 18 men, 6 females, 1 canine. All roles are open in terms of ethnicity and the ages listed below are just guidelines.

There will be some doubling of the roles listed below.
Tilney-The Lord Chamberlain. Appointed by the Queen with the power to close down theatres. A dogged martinet. Became Elizabeth I’s Master of Revels in 1579. In charge of censoring and approving playscripts. Male 40-50.
Will Shakespeare- Poet and Playwright. A starry-eyed dreamer struggling with his professional and love life. Male 20-30.
Ralph- A novice actor who plays Nurse and Petruchio. Regularly works with Henslowe’s company. A bit of a boozer. Male 20-40.
Kate- A whore at the tavern.
Violia de Lessups- A daughter who disguises herself as Thomas Kent to audition to be an actor. Requires a vocal and physical distinction between Violia and Kent. Violia must not be played as snobby or entitled.
Queen Elizabeth I-Strong willed, successful and clever.
Henslowe- Owner and manager of the Rose Theatre. A giant in London’s early modern theatre scene. The owner of the Rose playhouse and the manager of the Admiral’s Men (as well as Ned Alleyn’s father-in- law). In debt to nefarious producer Fennyman, he needs Shakespeare to finish a play so he can pay Fennyman. Flustered and set upon but determined to stick it out. Male 40-50
Robin- A novice actor who plays Lady Capulet / Frees: Fennyman’s accomplice and henchman. Male 20-40.
Molly- A whore at the tavern / Mistress Quickly- Wardrobe mistress at Whitehall Palace. Female, 18+.
Burbage- The lead actor and owner of the Curtain Theatre. Impatiently waiting for Shakespeare to finish a play. Demanding, but ultimately allows Shakespeare’s play to be performed at the Curtain. Grandiose. Competitive. Male, 40-60.
Sir Robert de Lessups- Viola’s father. Willing to trade his daughter to Lord Wessex for a title. No such a nice person. Male 40-60.
Sam- An actor who plays Juliet, until his voice suddenly changes. A polite, talented young performer. Male 15-20.
Nurse- Servant to Viola. Inspired by the nurse in Romeo and Juliet. Clever and kind. Viola’s friend. A mother substitute. Female. 30+.
Peter- An actor who plays Tybalt/ Barman. An adult actor who works with Alleyn. He plays Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. Male 20+.
Marlowe- Will’s colleague, friend, and inspiration. Vain and arrogant, but has Will’s best interest at heart. Male, 30-40.
Wabash- A stammering novice actor and Henslowe’s tailor. Male 30-40.
Adam- A novice actor who plays Gregory, Benvolio, and Servingman. / Boatman. Male 20.+
Wessex- A nobleman betrothed to Viola. Selfish and mean. The Villain. Male 30-40.
Ned Alleyn-The lead actor of the Admiral’s Men, plays Mercutio. A big name in London Theatre. Male 30-40.
Lambert-Fennyman’s accomplice and henchman, a thug. / Guard. 20s-50s.
Fennyman: Producer of Henslowe’s show. Owed money by Henslow. Initially in it for profit, but eventually is captivated by Shakespeare’s play and the theatrical world. Male 40-60.
Webster- A street urchin who aspires to be an actor. Loves blood and gore; grows up to become an accomplished and gruesome Jacobean playwright. Strong language skills. Must be available for all performances. Must not have any dog allergies. 10-13 years old
Nol- An actor who plays Benvolio and Samson. 20+
Burbage Heavy #1. 20+
Burbage Heavy # 2. 20+
Dog- A trained animal that delights the Queen. A well-trained dog of any medium- to small-size breed (approximately 12 to 40 pounds) that is available for all 8 performances as well as several rehearsals. Dogs should be comfortable around crowds of people and children. We are especially interested in dogs that can perform tricks.
Framing Device
Casting: 35 individuals, all ages and types.
This production will rely heavily on improvisation in the creation of the show. Those auditioning should come ready to play a few theatre games/improv exercises.
The Wild Party
Those wishing to be considered for this production should come prepared to sing a song in the style of the show that shows your range. An accompanist will be provided.

Queenie - Sexy. Looks a little older and more tired than her age would indicate, but beautiful. Afraid of being alone. Has become addicted to Burrs’ presence and ravenous sexual appetite. Gender: Female. Age: 20 to 30
Burrs - Handsome. A professional clown. Dangerous and charming all at once. Sexually ravenous and drawn to Queenie like a moth to the flame. Hurts somewhere deep inside, and slowly descends into jealous insanity. Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 40
Black - Strong, handsome, and poised without being posed. An enigmatic loner. Protective. No-nonsense kind of guy who cannot understand Queenie’s attraction to Burrs. Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 35
Kate - A lush. Likes to be the “life of the party.” Always looking out for number one, and is jealous of Queenie. Sexy, sensual, and confident.
Gender: Female. Age: 20 to 30
Madelaine True - A tired woman with a cruel mouth. An announced lesbian. Sexually hungry. Blunt and very dry.
Gender: Female. Age: 35 to 55
Eddie - Mae’s husband who is perhaps even more dim-witted than she is. A big oaf. Can be a lovable teddy bear but also a quick tempered brute. Adores his wife.. Gender: Male. Age: 30 to 45
Mae -Eddie’s wife. Sweet and beautiful, but not particularly bright. Adores her husband and dotes on him. Gender: Female. Age: 25 to 45
Oscar D’armano - Phil’s brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.
Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 35
Phil D’armano - Oscar’s brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.
Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 35
Dolores - A party-goer pitching ideas and hoping to score with Sam. A wild woman of the night.. Gender: Female. Age: 30 to 45
Sam - Busy producer and “attention whore.” Trying to avoid the outrageous pitches made by Dolores, until it becomes sexual. Gender: Male. Age: 30 to 50
Nadine - The only minor at the party. Waifish and somewhat naïve. She is in over her head and trying to keep up. Gender: Female. Age: 16 to 18
Max - One of the party goers and a member of the usual “gang.” He is full of life and energy. Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 35

Telling: Lansing - the immigrant experience
Casting: This production will utilize local Lansing individuals who identify as immigrants or refugees. A formal call for participation in this original production will also go out to the entire community of Lansing. Those interested in being part of the production will be interviewed about their own life experience by a member of the nationally recognized "Telling Project" in the Fall 2018, and those interviews will be crafted into a play script. The individuals interviewed will then be acting in the production. Indecent
Casting: 4 men, 3 women
INDECENT is performed by an ensemble of seven actors (The Troupe) and 3 musicians. The members of The Troupe are:
The Stage Manager (Lemml)- 30's. Formerly a tailor, God of Vengeance becomes his passionate cause.
The Ingénues (1 female, 1 male, early 20’s) They play all the brides, grooms, all the innocents and passionate believers.
The Primes (1 female, 1 male, mid 30’s-early 40’s) They play all those in the prime of life, and are the vamps, the vice, the scarred, and the schemers.
The Elders (1 female, 1 male, 50’s and up). They play all the fathers, mothers, the sages and the fools at any age.
Call-backs and new auditions for INDECENT will be held on Sunday, September 23 from 6 to 9 pm. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Auditioners will also be asked to prepare a verse from a simple traditional or folk song to sing acapella. If you are auditioning for PCTC’S other shows on Aug. 1 and 2 and are interested in auditioning for INDECENT, please indicate that on your audition form and we will contact you regarding INDECENT call-back auditions.
NOTE: Because Indecent is about a play that was written for the Yiddish theater and performed by Yiddish speakers, some Yiddish dialect and accents will be used and dialect coaching provided. In the convention of this play, when characters speak in their native language they speak standard (unaccented) English. When characters speak in English as their second language, they do so with the accent and dialect of their native tongue. Additionally, some of the songs will be sung in Yiddish. (Not to worry – we have an excellent music director and dialect coach!)
