8/23-26 - The Downeaster Theatre (TDT) will be holding open auditions for its upcoming fall productions of “Romeo and Juliet” for youth and “Fall in New York” for adults Aug. 23-26.

“Romeo and Juliet” is the classic tale of star-crossed lovers meeting, and their feuding families clashing, with tragic results. Witten by William Shakespeare.

“Fall in New York” is the story of one couple and four possible outcomes for their romance. Written for one 20s-30s male (ideally one who plays a musical instrument) and one 20s-30s female by Lansing native Kathryn Willis.

Youth ages 8-18 can audition for a part in “Romeo and Juliet”, and adults ages 18 and up for a part in “Fall in New York” on Thurs., Aug. 23, Fri., Aug. 24, and Sun. Aug. 26 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. or Sat., Aug. 25 from 10 a.m.-noon at The Downeaster Theatre, 1120 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Lansing, MI. Those auditioning need only to attend one of the audition sessions. Those interested can also sign up to volunteer backstage for this production (i.e. makeup, costumes, box office, etc.). For those youth preparing to audition, TDT will be hosting an audition workshop on Thurs., Aug. 23 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for $5.

“This season – All’s Fair in Love – is going to be a blast at The Downeaster, and we are kicking it off with a classing star-crossed lovers story with a modern twist, and a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure romance,” said Executive Artistic Director, Kathryn Willis.

Community members are encouraged to mark their calendars for the “Romeo and Juliet” production, which will be performing at The Downeaster Theatre Nov 29-Dec. 2 and the “Fall in New York” production, which will be performing Oct. 18-28. Learn more at www.thedowneastertheatre.com

Blue Light Players had originally pre-cast the role of Pulitzer in Newsies. Unfortunately, the actor in the role had to back out due to illness in his family. So, the role is now available for general auditions. This is a significant role and there may be Lansing actors who are interested specifically in this role now that it is available.

NEWSIES - AUDITION UPDATE

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the role of Pulitzer in the Blue Light Players' production of Newsies, is now open for auditions on August 19th and 20th. The character description for this role is as follows:
Joseph Pulitzer
A pompous businessman through and through, owns the World and is concerned solely with the bottom line. Katherine’s no-nonsense father, Pulitzer doesn’t sympathize with the strikers, but he does eventually – and grudgingly – respect Jack.
Gender: male
Age: 40 to 55
Vocal range top: F4
Vocal range bottom: C3
An audition packet containing the score and sides for Pulitzer is now available on our website at:http://www.bluelightplayers.com/auditions.html Any questions may be sent to:mailto:[email protected]

9/23 - Don' t miss AUDITIONS for Paula Vogel's award-winning show INDECENT, directed by Mary Job at Peppermint Creek

Sunday, September 23 at 6 PM - 9 PM
Peppermint Creek Theatre Company
6025 Curry Ln, Lansing, Michigan 48911

Critics have called “extraordinary”, “thrums with music, desire”, “rich in sympathy and humor”.

Production dates are June 6-16.

Looking for a cast of 3 women and 4 men who play multiple roles in this moving drama of a little Yiddish play that shattered ethnic, social and gender stereotypes and whose cast was convicted of indecency for portraying a love affair between the daughter of a brothel owner and one of his girls. The show features ensemble acting with vibrant singing and dancing of traditional Yiddish music.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Actors will also be asked to prepare a verse from a traditional or folk song to sing acapella. For further information on the play, copies of audition forms and the audition cuts, click on this link. http://www.peppermintcreek.org/audition.html
