Charles Condomine is a novelist who invites medium, Madame Arcati, to his house to conduct a seance, hoping the experience will inspire a book he’s working on. Things get out of hand when she summons the spirit of his dead first wife, a severe inconvenience for his present wife.
Characters (ages are flexible)
Edith --- the maid. New to the household. Has a tendency to move at top speed.
Ruth --- (35-40s+) A smart looking woman who is a bit jealous of Charles’ relationship with his first wife.
Charles ---(40ish and up) An intelligent and urbane English novelist
Dr. Broadman ---(50ish+) A pleasant English country doctor.
Mrs. Broadman ---(50ish+) His wife. Not glam but pleasant.
Madame Arcati ---(could be anywhere between 45 and 64) A spiritualist. Not too extravagant but with a definite bias toward the barbaric.
Elvira (El-veer’-uh) ---Charles’ deceased first wife. She returns as a ghost with a goal.
