AUDITIONS for The Play's the Thing - Edited and directed by Iris Raine Paul
will be held at Capital Area District Libraries*
401 S Capitol Ave (Headquarters), Lansing, Michigan 48933
Playing August 17 at Riverwalk Theatre's Dart Black Box
The Play’s the Thing is a fanciful depiction of Othello and Desdemona’s wedding, and features an assortment of characters from other Shakespeare works as their wedding guests. Various scenes intertwine into one cohesive show to highlight themes from Shakespeare’s works that speak on the diversity of his characters and the relevance that his texts continue to hold. It explores themes such as racism, mental health, gender, sexuality, harassment, and unhealthy relationships.
There will be approximately 12 roles in this show, requiring a diverse group of actors. Even if you are new to Shakespeare, please come join us! We will be work-shopping how to handle the text and various acting styles throughout the rehearsal process.
We will be doing cold reads from the script. Auditioners are welcome and encouraged to prepare a one minute monologue from the Shakespeare catalogue as well.
Please be advised that there will be construction on South Capitol Ave. and it will be closed between Kalamazoo and Hillsdale. Auditioners are welcome at any point prior to 7:30pm, but are encouraged to arrive at 6pm. We will be in the auditorium in the basement of the library.
