Date and Time: Saturday August 19th, 2023 at 12:00pm
Location: Riverwalk Theatre
NOTE: Actual Auditions will be held Sunday and Monday, August 20 & 21 at 7 pm. The preparatory workshop described below is not required but will be helpful for auditions. More info at https://www.riverwalktheatre.com/auditions.html
If you’re reading this, you are more than likely interested in auditioning for Riverwalk’s November production of The Trail to Oregon!, a musical by StarKid Productions. We are going to be hosting an audition workshop at the date and time above at Riverwalk itself. There will be 4 parts to the audition workshop, as well as the actual auditions themselves (which will be held the next two days, August 20th and 21st at 7pm): improv, dance, singing, and acting. Since there are a few parts to the audition itself, we wanted to prepare individuals for what will be a detailed, but fun, audition!
Here’s a more detailed review of what will be expected at the workshop:
- Improv: Led by a local Riverwalk actor, this portion will test your improvisational skills, including various games and warmups. In this section, the creative team is looking for on-the-spot thinking, comedic chops, and energy.
- Dance: Led by our choreographer, you will learn and perform a short dance selection from the show (NOT the section you’ll be learning at the actual auditions themselves). Be sure to dress accordingly. We’re not looking for the best dancing in the world, but instead, persistence, energy, and teamwork.
- Singing: This is the only section you will need to prepare anything for. You will need to prepare the song, “You Gotta Go”, from The Trail to Oregon!, the penultimate number. In the song, the characters are farting to death of dysentery, but here, you should learn the song as it is written, and we will provide the farts at random points during your performance. Do not pre-prepare farts. Learn the song as it is written. Here are the links to each characters’ version of the song. Find the one that best suits your vocal part. And here is the sheet music. During this section we are not only looking at vocal chops, but we’re looking for on-the-spot thinking, comedic chops, and energy.
- Acting: Led by the director, you will be handed different sides from other StarKid shows (Twisted, Firebringer, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, etc.), and you will be given an opportunity to read at least two sides. Once, with an initial read through, and the second time with a note from the director. We will be looking at not only your interpretations of the scene in front of you, but how well you take direction.
If you have any questions about anything, please contact the director, Ayden Soupal, either on Facebook through Messenger, or via email (aydensoupalbusiness@gmail.com). This can be with anything at all, including if you need help accessing any links or the sheet music, want a more detailed description of anything, or any questions about the real auditions.
