It's DUCKS Weekend!

1/21/2021

This is the weekend to view the first new play on the Covid-Shutdown Greater Lansing Theatre Scene in a lo-o-o-ong time.  It’s an entertaining and involving hour — free of charge - only this weekend, on Youtube. Don’t miss it!

PASS THE DUCKS  will be accessible on YouTube is 5:00 on January 22 to 5:00 on Monday, January 25.  Here is the direct link:  https://youtu.be/HLYogAbTyKs

The play, written by Doak Bloss, directed by Emily Clark with assistance from Marcus Fields, features Heath Sartorius and Doak Bloss as two men meeting to discuss a third who has died. Over the course of a summer each challenges the other in unforeseen ways on their way to a mutual reckoning of loss and forgiveness.

Mark and I enjoyed our “sneak preview” very much and I want to watch again, to see if I notice any “tweaks” - editing improvements - that may have been added.(Thanks to Matt Ottinger, for all his video/editing artistry.)

You can check out more info and my “review” at http://www.greaterlansingtheatre.net/reviews

The script is a tad “PG” in spots, dealing with LGBTQ issues among others — not a kids’ show, despite the “Ducks” reference. And yes, you WILL learn what the phrase “Pass the Ducks” actually means during the course of the show!

Though viewing is free of charge, Doak has suggested donations to Riverwalk Theatre in response to his show — however, note that it has been an independent production, not directly sponsored by Riverwalk. https://www.riverwalktheatre.com/act-ii-campaign.html
Doak welcomes sharing of this announcement via various social networks in the theatre, human services, social justice, community organizing, and LGBTQ communities.

For more information, contact Doak Bloss at mailto:doakbliss@gmail.com

LCC Virtual Acting Classes

1/1/2021

Curious about exploring acting? Want to shake off some rust?  Miss collaborating?  We are offering a host of great classes this spring, from Intro classes to Shakespeare to Acting for the Camera to Auditions to Movement for the Actor to Voice for the Actor.

WE WILL WAIVE PRE-REQS.

Maybe you've always wanted to learn from/collaborate with people like Deb Keller, Blake Bowen, Paige Dunckel, or Mark Colson.

Speaking from experience last Fall, having acting classes over screens can actually work very well, with some surprising positives.  One, it's very convenient - who misses the Gannon ramp? No one. Well ... maybe just a little.

And the final scenes that my 120 did were the best I think I've ever had, with an extraordinary truth and emotional honesty to them.  Something about acting from the comfort of your home opens people up to make riskier choices.

So, contact me or Paige if you're interested.  Beginners welcomed!  Alumni welcomed!  Seasoned masters welcomed! Plus, having middle aged people in class is always great.

Ixion is excited to announce that we've selected six scripts for our production of "Dreams" that will go up in May.

We are equally excited to announce that we are specifically looking for new or aspiring directors to direct four of the plays. New directors will be responsible for the creative vision of their individual piece, but will also receive feedback and guidance from three experienced directors. Too, our artistic director will assist new directors with production concerns and other issues as they arrive.

Rehearsals and auditions for "Dreams" will be via zoom and begin late March. Performances will be outdoors in local amphitheaters.

Persons interested in directing for the first time or perhaps just for the first time with Ixion are encouraged to send a note to our artistic director jeff croff via this email, ixionensemble@gmail.com with "New Director" in subject line.

We would like to select the directors by the end of January.

We hope your new year is looking bright. We know we're excited to be finally looking toward another production.

Our Mission:
To build and strengthen community through storytelling. Become a gathering place for artists and community members to explore and celebrate the human experience.
