Jennifer English reports on her son’s LIVE singing recital at 2pm today, Saturday 3/28 accompanied by her talented keyboard-ace husband Jeff English.

Jace McCloy will be live on his page Saturday at 2pm....and I think there will be a link I can post on my page….(Jennifer Johns English) but not til sat a bit before 2....but he should just be live on HIS page ...AND my page should have a link to it on Sat. It's a public post so should be viewable to all. It's just facebook live.:)
And should be viewable AFTER as well.

It's his senior year, and Opera was canceled (he was Don Pedro in Beatrice and Benedict) and his senior solo in his A capella group is cancelled...and he won't walk in cap and gown:(....But we are doing this recital NO MATTER WHAT! LOL

Thanks so much! We really appreciate the support and VIRTUAL audience!!:)

LCC VIRTUAL musical auditions

Lansing Community College Performing Arts
Musical/Singing Auditions
Fall 2020 Mainstage Production
Video Auditions due by midnight April 20th
Send video auditions to:
    Kelly Stuible-Clark at stuib1@lcc.edu AND
    Andy Callis at callisa@lcc.edu

We're accepting video submissions for those interested in the Fall 2020 musical at LCC. While a final decision has not been made as to which musical will be produced, we would like to assess the talent available in our student body as well as our community. Please send us a video of 1-2 minutes that shows off your singing/acting ability. You can sing to a backing track, accompany yourself on an instrument, or sing acapella, just make sure that we can see and hear you clearly in the video. Please do not submit monologues, but focus on selling your song as the character.

If the file is too large you can use file-sharing options like dropbox or Google drive, or you can upload it to your personal YouTube channel and send the link. Any questions about format/material, please contact Kelly at stuib1@lcc.edu

Can't attend theatre? Donate!

WELL!
This past weekend was supposed to start the true GLUT of too-much theatre when shows that started rehearsing after the holidays opened. Now that glut has turned to a dearth in the wake of corona virus closings. There goes a lot of WORK by actors/directors/designers — not to mention a lot of box office $$.

How about if we 1,022 Theatre People on the GLUT list, all think about that show or two we might have planned to attend this month and donate at least that much to a local theatre? I have no doubt that most will bounce back into performance mode soon… ish?… and a little extra $ will help that happen.

NOTE that Riverwalk membership offers three free months after March. (Fiscal year July-June) Those joining after March 1 will be members/donors through June of 2021.

Curtainless Theatre Livestreams Julius Caesar

Iris Raine Paul reports:

We'll be running the (recorded) livestream again at 7 today and 2 tomorrow to honor our original performance schedule. We would so appreciate it if you were able to spread the word. I know Kameron is going to repost them at those times on our facebook page, but I think people should be able to access the original posts here (it's in two parts, 1 section before and 1 after intermission):

PART 1 https://www.facebook.com/curtainlesstheatrelansing/videos/509545796425496/
PART 2 https://www.facebook.com/curtainlesstheatrelansing/videos/193653111923848/

We did get feedback that part of the first half is difficult to hear and we do move closer part way through. This was our first shot at something like this, and it was well received, so we're considering revisiting the idea with some better equipment for future shows. It's a definite benefits to doing something in the public domain; we loved how accessible the livestream was to access for family and friends from out of town, or those who were high-risk and worried about going out right now (and maybe in the future we can include subtitles for our deaf and hard of hearing friends!).

Just posted on the RWT website:

“Based on the recommendations of the Governor and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services,Riverwalk Theatre will be temporarily cancelling performances effective immediatelyin an effort to proactively support all measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

“We are proud of the support the community provides us. However, at this time , we believe we must put the health and safety of our members, volunteers, staff and audience first. We will continue to monitor the situation and use the information and tools provided by our local, state, and health officials to make informed decisions about moving forward and our next steps. On behalf everyone at Riverwalk Theatre, thank you for your support. We are proud to be a part of this beautiful and resilient community, and we are eager to safely resume performances. In the meantime, be safe and well. ”

This means that— contrary to this morning’s email from me --there will be NO MORE Marvin Gardens performances, and NO Game Night (Charades) tomorrow. (sigh - as I said before: info coming in sporadically…. Doing my best, here; please email any other cancellations.) JSZussman@gmail.com

The Show Must (not?) Go On!

The flurry of coronavirus cancellations is dizzying…. I’m starting to work on updating the calendars at http://www.greaterlansingtheatre.net as I get the info floating in from various sources. Feel free to email me any show/audition cancellations - JSZussman@gmail.com.

SO sad that Lion in Winter at Starlight has postponed its second weekend, since it is such an excellent show. Hope to have later dates set in the near future. Starlight’s I Do! I Do! is cancelled after low audition turnout due to so many other musicals being rehearsed at this time. Hope these other musicals will all see the stage later this spring/summer!

Bonnets and Marian at MSU is also postponed. Ixion’s Skeleton Crew is cancelled — along with Ixion auditions for rUST monologue show. Lansing Catholic is has cancelled Hello Dolly!

Cost of Living coming to PCTC

Peppermint Creek Theatre’s "Cost of Living" Opens March 19!

Eddie, an unemployed truck driver, reunites with his ex-wife Ani after she suffers a devastating accident. John, a brilliant and witty doctoral student, hires overworked Jess as a caregiver. As their lives intersect, Majok’s play delves into the chasm between abundance and need and explores the space where bodies—abled and disabled—meet each other.

Peppermint Creek Guest Director, Janet Colson, speaks about why she is excited about bringing this new play to Lansing audiences, “Martyna Majok’s incredible script really drew me to the show. It's interesting, unusual and I know audiences will see themselves in one of the four characters - or all of them. And they will definitely be talking about it afterwards - maybe to me! And I’ve enjoyed connecting with people in the community about important issues, i.e., inclusion, accessibility, representation”.

"Cost of Living" features Juan Salazar (Eddie), Laura Croff (Ani), Max Donovan (John) and Ny'kieria Blocker (Jess). "Cost of Living" is generously underwritten by Pam & Doug Badgero and Susan & Jack Davis.

WEEK ONE (March 19 - 22): Thurs & Fri @ 8pm, Sat & Sun @ 2pm
WEEK TWO (March 26 - 29): Thurs - Sat @ 8pm, Sun @ 2pm
At our venue - Central United Methodist Church, 215 N Capitol Ave, Lansing

Riverwalk’s A HOTEL ON MARVIN GARDENS has TWO announcements:

1. Game Night Saturday, March 14 -- Plan to arrive early (7pm) Saturday, March 14 as hubby Mark and I host a casual hour of games in the RWT lobby before we view A Hotel on Marvin Gardens, the Monopoly-game-based comedy on the Black Box stage. We’ll have Boggle, Old Maid, Apples to Apples, Uno, Candyland, Sorry, and whatever else we can find — maybe Monopoly Junior as the REAL Monopoly takes too long! We’ll be seeing the REAL Monopoly game onstage at 8pm, in all its comedic, cutthroat competitiveness.

1. NO SHOW FRIDAY, MARCH 20 — Michigan avenue will be closed for the MDC Legacy Dinner at the nearby Lansing Center at which Nancy Pelosi will be speaking and it will be difficult/impossible to access Museum Drive and Riverwalk theatre. Seven other Marvin Gardens dates to choose from! (Bargain Thursdays the 12th and 19th at 7pm $10/$8; regular $12/$10 shows 8pm the 13th, 14th and 21st and 2pm both Sundays the 15th and 22nd.) 517-482-5700 - www.riverwalktheatre.com
