Lansing Community College Performing Arts presents
Gee’s Bend – A staged reading. By Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder Directed by Paige Tufford Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, 25-26 @ 8 p.m. LCC Black Box Theatre Gannon Building – Room 1422 Masks are required for all attendees, regardless of vaccination status. Gee's Bend depicts the turbulent history of African-Americans in the 20th century by focusing on a single family in the real community of Gee's Bend, AL, which is now famous for the beautiful quilts created by the women who grew up there. Gospel songs weave in and out of this hauntingly beautiful work. The cast includes Twyla Birdsong, Ny’Kieria Blocker and Jackson Schmitz; with vocalists Rose Jangmi Cooper and Karrington Kelsey. $5 - students $10 – general admission Tickets sold at the door and online at https://secure.touchnet.com/C20118_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=40 Limited Seating. Wizard of Oz, concluding this Friday and Saturday March 11 and 12. Abby Morris does a fine job as Dorothy; Andrew Kluemper, Owen Spence, and Jonah Richards are the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion respectively. These young men take on these iconic roles and make it their own. Emma Hansen steals the show with her Wicked Witch of the West. One musical number that was good was The Jitterbug. This was written for the movie but was never used. Many thanks to Riverwalk's Costume Shop for providing costumes. Performances are at 7 pm Friday and Saturday. Tickets are going fast. Reservations are at www.ticketor.com/lchsdrama or at the door. Performances are at the high school at 501 Marshall Street. NOTE: The GLUT Lady has a hard enough time keeping track of community and college shows and usually does NOT cover High School shows even though I know some of them are well worth seeing — but occasionally a parent or teacher clues me in. If you want to do that, please email and include date/time/location - how to get tickets — as much in advance as possible. Thanks, Jane
