Based on the seven delightful children’s books by Crockett Johnson, HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON follows the zany adventures of an inventive young boy. HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON , part of the Act One Family Series
Enchantment Theatre Company’s production will take the audience on a wild ride as Harold jets to Mars, joins a circus, and meets a princess. Harold creates the world he wants to explore, using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his imagination. The Harold books have captivated families for more than fifty years, which is why Enchantment chose to adapt these wonderful stories to a stage production in 2009.
While HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON uses Enchantment’s signature life - size puppets,
masked actors and music, this production also adds a whole new dimension with the use of large
- scale video animation. The animations capture Harold’s purple line drawings perfectly and
help create his world of make - believe. This popular production will amaze anyone who is young at heart, from children to grandparents. Both performances will be preceded by a free iCAN interactive educational activity, provided by Wharton Center’s Inner Circle. These will take place one hour before each Act One Family Series performance.

EAST LANSING, MI
--
Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will run this April
for the premiere East Lansing engagement in Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall .
With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, this new version of PHANTOM, one of
the most successful musicals of all - time, will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52 , making this one of the largest productions on tour in North America. Ticket prices start at $32.00, with group and student discounts available.
Andrew Lloyd Webber said, “It’s wonderful to have a new production of PHANTOM touring America
now that the show has celebrated over 26 years on Broadway. Director Laurence Connor has done an amazing job and this production has received huge critical acclaim in the UK.” Cameron Mackintosh said, ''After a glorious celebration of 26 phenomenal years on Broadway with no
end in sight, I’m delighted that this dazzling new production of PHANTOM has been phenomenally well - received by both audiences and critics alike in the U.K. and now the U.S. With an exciting new design and staging, retaining Maria Björnson’s amazing costumes, I am confident North American audiences will fall in love with the PHANTOM in his new guise — for the first time or all over again.”
The new production of PHANTOM is an enormous hit with audiences and critics alike…
“Extraordinarily opulent. This PHANTOM’S storytelling and relationships have an electrif
ying tension.” – Chicago Sun - Times
“An intense and spectacular new production with a stunning new design, fresh drama and added momentum.” – Sunday Express (UK)
“Take a deep breath and prepare to be dazzled; this kind of gorgeous escapism is exactly wh
at audiences need.” – The Scotsman (UK)
“Powerful, gorgeous...and better than ever.” – The Philadelphia Inquirer
“This PHANTOM is for a new generation.” – Roy Leonard, Chicago Now

This coming August will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Mid-Michigan's Renegade Theatre Festival. Can you believe it?  This 'out-of the-box' theatre festival started in East Lansing, Michigan. A few years later the Festival was welcomed to a permanent home in Lansing, Michigan's Old Town Arts District.

We're excited about the growing buzz in the Michigan arts world regarding new plays being created here. And this is the Renegade Theatre Festival's 6th year of what's become a cornerstone event in the Festival: Renegade N.O.W. -  our new, original works series! So dig out your pencils and fire-up your laptops folks! We're looking for great, new plays!

Here is information from Renegade team member and  N.O.W. coordinator, Paige Dunckel, about the Renegade's playwrighting series and submitting your work to the Festival. (And we're always on the lookout for hot, new Renegade N.O.W. Directors! Just drop us an e-mail about that, too... )

Do you have what it takes to be a Renegade?

RENEGADE N.O.W.
New Plays Wanted

The Renegade Theatre Festival, held in Lansing, Michigan, is seeking new plays for our annual festival held in August. Going into its eighth year in the festival-rich Old Town district, Renegade is a free, completely volunteer festival that gives theaters and independent producer/writer/directors an opportunity to present works that they might not normally stage. This summer marks the sixth year of the festival featuring new, original works – Renegade N.O.W.!

We will be accepting plays in two separate categories. We will be accepting new, original works that meet the following guidelines:

New Plays #1:
Plays should be no longer than 90 minutes in length.
Never been produced.
Can be any style/genre.

New Plays #2:
Plays written on the themes of Heroism and/or Courage.
Are not longer than 15 minutes in length.
Have a cast of no more than three characters.
Have never been produced.
Can be any style/genre.
Can be fully produced using minimal setting/props/costumes.

The deadline for new play submissions is May 15th, 2015.
Plays should be sent electronically to: ptufford@yahoo.com
If you are unable to submit your script via email, you can mail a cd to the following address.

Renegade Theatre Festival
Attn: Paige Dunckel
4065 E. St. Joe Hwy.
Grand Ledge, MI 48837

Please include your name, address, phone and email address with your submission. Playwrights should also include a brief synopsis of their play that can be used in promotional material as well as a short bio. Playwrights whose plays have been selected will be notified by late June. (Renegade Festival is August 13-15)

Montessori Children’s House is soliciting donations for a silent and live auction fundraiser on March 28, 2015. They are a 501 c (3) non profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
Montessori Children’s House is committed to serving a very diverse population of children ages 3-12 for over 40 years. This commitment requires that they raise money each year to help families in need with tuition costs and well as secure funds to keep their facilities current, safe and beautiful for the children.
All donations of goods or services are greatly appreciated — and will be on display during an event which is attended by 400 people. (Jane notes: THEATRES, this is a great place to donate gift certificates — especially for family/children’s shows; the “audience” is mostly young parents and their parents, the grandparents of the Montessori Students. Put certificates in an envelope with instructions for redemption. You can also send brochures or information about your theatre — and I can make a stand-up sign with your logo to display with your gift certificates.

If you want ME to pick up/deliver and/or make a sign, contact jszussman@gmail.com

If you want any other info about the auction or donating other stuff, call 482-9191

March 26 – April 26, 2015
A Collaboration with the
MSU Department of Theatre

When Sam first fell in love with Rose he wrote her a song  — a song that has been covered by every recording artist and translated into every language.  For twenty-five years, Sam has been trying to write the next song – to no avail. When the couple decides to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary with a cruise in the Mediterranean, Sam hears the most beautiful music he’s ever heard and, in an attempt to capture it, jumps overboard. As he grapples with the legacy of his song, and a temptress of Greek mythology, he struggles to find a way home and to win back his wife. Out of a contemporary love story that grapples with the terrors of middle age, and the tortures of creative failure, comes a mystical expedition to find home. Featuring: Terry Heck, Katie Noyes, Mark Schenfisch, and John Seibert
