There’s still time to submit as many of your food and drink recipes as you’d like for the Moms of Quarantine Babies COOKBOOK being developed by Theresa Dunn and Tricia Rogers to benefit Riverwalk Theatre. Depending on the number of submissions, they cannot guarantee every recipe will be published.

When she is caught, will Creon listen to the pleas of mercy or allow his pride to destroy what is left of his family and Thebes?

Riverwalk Return Survey closes Sept. 30

Don’t forget to fill out the RIVERWALK RETURN SURVEY on how YOU feel about different mask/distancing procedures when YOU come back too Riverwalk Theatre. Remember, you can fill it out as an audience member, and also in your other “participant” roles, actor, director, crew etc. NOTE: when you have finished answering in your various roles, you must answer "NONE" (meaning you have no more role categories in which to answer) before it will let you hit "next" and get to the "submit" button. (Several folks have shared with me getting caught in a revolving door of "next" leading to "what additional roles?" and not being able to finish and submit.) Share the link with theatre friends! Blue Light Players is now EVOLVE THEATRICS

The Blue Light Players, a nonprofit theater company based in Delta Township, has announced that it is rebranding itself as Evolve Theatrics, to reflect a change in its mission and values.

Since 2005, the Blue Light Players has donated the proceeds of its productions to aid the families of fallen and critically injured police officers. In that time, the organization has given more than $36,000 to its cause.

“Like the rest of the country, we have been deeply shaken by the violence we have witnessed because of institutional racism within the criminal justice system and within our communities. We realized that we could no longer continue to support that system,” stated Helen Hart, founder of the theater group. “As Maya Angelou said, ‘when we know better, we have to do better.’ We know that we have to do better with how our money supports our community.”

Evolve Theatrics will continue to operate as a 501(C) (3) nonprofit, with show proceeds being donated to causes in the local community, particularly those committed to anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion.

The name also reflects the organization’s plans to evolve in the way theatrical productions are produced. The group is currently in virtual rehearsals for its first online production, which is also its first non-musical production. Alice in Wonderland will be presented on October 16th and 17th, 2020, with details to follow on the company website.

“We are committed to being inclusive, open and affirming as we continue to produce theater in both virtual, and when the time is safe, live environments,” said Hart. “We know that we must change and echoing the words from our 2019 production of ‘Newsies,’ the change starts ‘right damned now!’”

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing exists to support, strengthen and promote arts, culture and creativity in the Capital region.

‍ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
The Arts Council of Greater Lansing has been a leading voice for arts and culture in the Greater Lansing region since 1965 providing direct support to hundreds of artists and arts and cultural organizations located in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. The role of the Arts Council is to support and promote the work of its constituents by assisting them in the growth and development of their artistic practice, financial stability, and accessibility.

In addition to the support the organization provides its constituents, the agency also provides community arts leadership by actively engaging with area business and civic leaders to ensure that the arts play a vital role in economic development, creative placemaking, community revitalization, and quality of life issues. Currently the Arts Council is not open to the public and is conducting business remotely.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Administrative Assistant will perform clerical, administrative and reception tasks while serving as a brand ambassador for our mission to “support, strengthen and promote arts and culture in the Capital region.” The ideal candidate will be responsible, take initiative, multitask with ease and work well as part of a remote team. The Administrative Assistant will clearly and personably communicate with stakeholders, including but not limited to: board,staff, interns, donors, sponsors and students.

We are seeking a polished professional who enjoys interacting with people, creatively solving problems and working collaboratively toward real change. The Administrative Assistant will report to the Executive Director using strategically-aligned organizational goals for capacity building, increasing revenue through contributions, grants, memberships and sponsorships.

REQUIREMENTS:

Position is currently remote and part time with some flexibility (up to 30 hrs per week) during remote hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.– 5.p.m. Some work outside of normal business hours may be required.

Reopening Riverwalk Theatre –

At Riverwalk Theatre, we’re looking forward to starting “Act Two” after our pandemic intermission. This will require in-person, group work projects and training sessions in order to safely prepare for productions to resume in our auditoriums. To help us understand what “safely” means for our supporters, volunteers, actors, crews and audience members, we are asking you to complete a survey. Your opinion is important to us.

Trial Practice Acting Gig Fall 2020!

RE: Ahmed v Buckner

RIVERWALK THEATRE is looking for 2 actors who are interested in playing the plaintiff in mock trials for the MSU College of Law Trial Practice Institute. If you are interested in an unusual acting gig where you will be taking case materials, building a character consistent with those materials and playing that character in the highly improvisational environment of a civil court case, this gig is for you! There is a $275 stipend for this work.

Kiya Ahmed, Plaintiff (Female, Egyptian American, 41 yrs old) Kiya Ahmed is a single mother, who worked at C&S Accounting most of her adult life. She became involved in an eight month affair with defendant Paul Buckner, an important partner in the firm. After she ended the affair, she applied for partnership and was turned down by the hiring committee chaired by Buckner. She was given 6 months to resign from C&S, which was normal for accountants who did not become partners.

Ms. Ahmed claims she was denied partnership in the Cooper & Stewart (C&S) accounting firm because she terminated a sexual relationship with defendant Paul Buckner. She also claims gender discrimination based on a sexual harassment claim as well as a hostile work environment claim. She further claims that she was denied partnership based on her religion (Islam) and ethnicity. Finally she claims that she was defamed by defendant Buckner.

There are two Trial Practice I classes this fall. Each class will be organized into two trials, for a total of 4 trials. In order to cast the mock trials, Riverwalk is seeking 2 actors to play the role of plaintiff Kiya Ahmed. (See description above.) Actors playing Ahmed need to be available for two trials, one each on Saturday and Sunday.

Due to the pandemic, all meetings and appearances will be through Zoom meetings. Witnesses are required to have the Zoom software/app installed on computer, tablet/IPad or smart phone. The free app/software is available for download at Zoom.com or from the app store for your device. (We’ll go over the Zoom meeting process at Orientation.)

Actors would need to be available for Zoom Meetings on ALL of the following dates:

   • Saturday, October 3, 10am – Noon – Case and Process Orientation

   • Saturday, October 17, 8:30 am – 3 pm - Witness interviews

   • Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22, 8:30am - 3pm – Trials

LIVE outdoor shows at Riverwalk - and Lebowsky

RIVERWALK LIVE SHOW in the PARKING LOT!

Join us for BROADWAY ON THE GRAND a parking lot popup show Saturday, September 12, 8:30 pm—a Riverwalk special event!

We couldn’t say no when our friend Sam Rohloff, asked to put on a show for the Riverwalk community while he’s here at home waiting for New York theatres to reopen their doors. With touring credits from Kinky Boots, and West Side Story, and as a graduate from Oakland University, he’s put together a night of show tunes with special guests you won’t want to miss.

Performers include Sam, himself, plus Emily Hadick, who has come a long, long way since she played orphan “Pepper” in Riverwalk’s 2011 Annie. She’s performed at Meadowbrook, Encore, The Dio, Exit Left Theatre, The Huron Playhouse... and more.
...and Sean Holland II, a fourth-year MSU award-winning music education/classical voice major who was outstanding as “Seaweed J. Stubbs ” in Riverwalk’s 2019 Hairspray as well as playing the title role in Orpheus in the Underworld among other roles at MSU and he has been featured on many recordings.
Performers are supported by Kait Wilson on keyboard and by Riverwalk staff and technicians: Kelly Jo Garland on sound, Cody Skalmowski and Cambray Sampson on lights, Jeff Magnuson producing, and Tom Ferris and Leroy Cupp on staging and logistics.
There will be no concessions sold and the building (bathrooms) will not be open to the public. We expect the performance to last about an hour. Parking instructions will be emailed to guests upon processing your reservation. We will be parking vehicles along Museum Dr., Michigan Ave., and within our own north lot. The performance will be outside, with numbered areas for you to set up your lawn chairs. You’ll reserve a space for up to four people from the same household to sit together in your own portable chairs with six-foot distance from other groups of patrons. This is a live, in-person event; we will not be recording/streaming it later.

ONLY 100 audience members are allowed, so make your reservation ASAP. $20 per person of any age/no discounts. You can reserve online (http://riverwalktheatre.com ) or by phoning Mike 517-482-5700. He is at the office Tuesday-Friday 10 am - 2 pm.

9/11-12 - Lebowsky Center is presenting a similar outdoor revue with 6pm and 9pm shows both Friday and Saturday in Owosso. featuring some of your favorites from the Lebowsky Center stage. Each evening, Park Street will be closed down for an ambient experience featuring two separate lineups of performers singing a mix of popular songs from the stage to screen for this safe, socially distant event.
