Ixion ARTISTS NIGHT $5 tickets

9/30/2017

Ixion’s ARTISTS NIGHT (10/14) offers $5 tickets to theatre participants.

The hazard of doing theatre is that often you're either too busy to go to another show or because you've been doing a show you don't have the disposable income to cover the ticket price.

While we can't fix your insatiable need to over book, Ixion is trying to make it easier for our theatre family to come see a show with Artists Night.

For Artists Night if you have been involved with a theatrical production at any company (on or off stage) wthin the past year, you can get in for just $5.

"How do you know?" you might ask. Well, if you've been in or worked a show you could show us the playbill or we could surf the appropriate website to confirm. Or, we could trust you and you just tell us about your more recent project. Either way works for us.

Thank you for doing theatre.

Gidion’s Knot by Johnna Adams (October 14,15, 21 & 22) performs at 8pm Saturdays and 2pm Sundays at the Robin Theatre on S. Washington in Reo Town.
Directed by Erica Beck
Starring Sara Frank-Hepfer & Janet Colson
A teacher and a mother navigate a difficult meeting to explore the bullying of a son and a troubling paper. Featuring Janet Colson and Sara Frank-Hepfer.

Ixion Tries to Solve Gidion's Knot

10/14-22 -Ixion's second production of the season is Gidion's Knot by Johnna Adams. Performances will be October 14, 15, 21 & 22 at 8 pm on Saturdays and 2 pm on Sundays. All performances are in The Robin Theatre, 1105 S. Washington Ave. Lansing, MI. Tickets are $15 at the door or online. For more information visit www.ixiontheatre.com or call 517.775.4246.

Synopsis: Over the course of a parent/teacher conference, a grieving mother and an emotionally overwhelmed primary school teacher have a fraught conversation about the tragic suicide of the mother's son, Gidion. Gidion may have been bullied severely—or he may have been an abuser. As his story is slowly uncovered, the women try to reconstruct a satisfying explanation for Gidion's act and come to terms with excruciating feelings of culpability.

Gidion's Knot is directed by Erica Beck and stars award-winning actress Sara Frank-Hepfer and Janet Colson.

"Grief is an unpredictable thing," observes Ixion Artistic Director, jeff croff. "Some in the face of loss and trauma might hide, while others need to find understanding and take an active hand in processing it. In this show the mother needs answers to so many questions, while the teacher struggles to find understanding in her own way."

Special discount to see Peppermint Creek's
'I Now Pronounce'!

Pull together your bridal party - bridesmaids, groomsmen, spouses - and get dressed up for a night out at PCTC! Anyone wearing one of their most memorable bridesmaid dresses, crazy tuxes, or iconic wedding gowns gets in to see I Now Pronounce half off any night!

This promotion applies to at the door sales only.
But among the drama, awkwardness, and celebration on stage, you'll be right at home decked out in that wonderful bridal wear!

After Adam and Nicole’s wedding culminates in an awkwardly timed fatality, the reception spins into an increasingly strange evening that leaves the bride and groom questioning just what it is they’re celebrating. But there’s no stopping the festivities: the flower girls are running amuck, the bridal party members are more preoccupied with their own flailing relationships, and everyone needs to stop ordering the blue drinks.

"With our season theme "Who's Leading?", it's a perfect opportunity to not only showcase a struggle between the classic husband vs. wife scenario, but also bring in their slightly damaged friends who try to grab hold of some understanding in their otherwise turbulent lives."
- I Now Pronounce Director Jordan Climie

Comedies end in marriage. Tragedies end in death.
I Now Pronounce begins with both.

A staged concert of We Foxes, a new musical by Ryan Scott Oliver is coming to Wharton Center’s Pasant Theatre September 22-24, 2017 as part of the ĭmáGen collaboration between MSU Department of Theatre and Wharton Center Institute for Arts & Creativity. Tickets are available at the official source to purchase Wharton Center tickets online, whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON.

Each year, since 2014, ĭmáGen selects a new musical to be presented under the guidance of a Broadway-caliber director. The program becomes a vivid learning experience for both college and high school actors who are cast alongside professionals in the production.  We Foxes, the 2017 selection, is a southern Gothic thriller set in small-town Missouri, 1945. It’s the story of Willa, a tough and unmannered orphan girl, adopted by the sheriff’s wife, who introduces her to a glamorous world of privilege and class. When Willa discovers dark secrets beneath the floorboards, a conflict arises and tears the two apart.  Willa must fight to survive! Can Willa find her own courage and salvation, and sacrifice everything to escape? It is a story of intense human struggle, deliverance, and the great salvation found only through oneself.

Ryan Scott Oliver who wrote We Foxes is becoming “a major new voice in musical theatre” (Entertainment Weekly) and is “shaking up musical theater with his dark, twisted and genius work … [Oliver] could very well be musical theater’s answer to an auteur filmmaker or a gothic novelist” (Huffington Post).  He was selected to open Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series and has received numerous awards including a Jonathan Larson Grant, a Richard Rodgers Award, and was selected for residencies at several prestigious theatres around the country.  He also founded and runs Actor Therapy:  a five-week training experience for young actors in NYC.

ĭmáGen invited Oliver to be a composer-in-residence September 9 – 24, 2017. “ĭmáGen is such a great program for everyone involved — from the MSU and high school students to the Broadway performers,” said MSU Assistant Professor of Theatre Brad Willcuts. “There are so many opportunities for creative collaboration and Ryan Scott Oliver’s We Foxes will be a fantastic challenge!”

Along with Oliver, the ĭmáGen program has engaged several other visiting artists as part of this two-week residency, including director, Marshall Pailet (Baghdaddy/Off-Broadway and Triassic Parq/Off-Broadway); dramaturg, Matthew Schneider (Allegiance/Broadway, Memphis/National Tour); actor, Katie Thompson (Pump Boys and Dinettes/Off-Broadway; Giant/Off-Broadway); actor, Wade McCollum (Wicked/Broadway and Ernest Shackleton Loves Me/Off-Broadway); Ethan Carlson (Oliver’s Assistant); and stage manager, Paige Conway.

Working alongside the visiting artists will be the MSU ĭmáGen team, including MSU Musical Director Dave Wendelberger and MSU Department of Theatre faculty members Brad Willcuts (Amazing Grace/Broadway) and Alisa Hauser (Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie/Broadway).

This production contains adult themes and language.  Recommended for ages 13 and up.

Portland Civic Casting Wonderful Life

9/8/2017

It’s only about a half-hour drive northwest to this acting opportunity. http://portlandcivicplayers.com
Hi Jane, I was referred to you by my colleague Bernie Lucas who told me about your G.L.U.T. List

I am co-directing a musical version of "It's a Wonderful Life" with the Portland Civic Players. The show is scheduled to run December 1,2,3 and 8,9,10. (we are anticipating needing to add an additional performance on December 7 as well.)

We had a pretty good turn-out for auditions, but we are missing a few major roles including the lead role George. If you know of anyone who can sing and act and is looking for some experience with a great theatre group we would love to hear from them. PCP is a great theatre family. Their home, Portland Playhouse, makes up for what it lacks in technical terms with the magic atmosphere of a historical theatre inhabited by community members who take great pride in delivering outstanding theatre.

Rehearsals will be primarily on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 7:00 until approximately 9:00 with greater intensity growing as the show nears. Were pretty good at working with people's schedules. We will be holding our most crucial dress rehearsal on November 19th.

We would love to welcome new people to our theatre program.

If you know of anyone interested please have them contact
Sherry Miller - Musical Director at 517-647-7030 or check out the Portland Civic Players Facebook Page.
or they may contact me at (616) 633-5986 or Littletom199@gmail.com

We really need to hear from and find people to fill these lead roles by Next Monday, September 11. With such late notice this likely does not accommodate your newsletter schedule, but if you happen to know of anyone who might be interested we would appreciate hearing from them.

Thank you and Be well,
Tom Little (616) 633-5986 or Littletom199@gmail.com
