Mid Michigan Summer Musical is finally here. The Castaways

7/31/2014

8/1-10 - Mid Michigan Summer Musical is finally here. The Castaways runs August 1 -10 with shows on Friday at 700 and Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00. Tickets are $5 for ages 12 and under and $7.00 for others.
About the play: The Castaways - a musical by Michael and Jill Gallina.  Grounded in historical fact, the The Castaways' plot, delivered through flashbacks, reveals the struggles of immigrant children on the streets of New York City in the early 1900s. Ultimately the happy endings for these “castaways” take them to homes with Midwestern families. Their poignant stories sensitize today's children to the stark realities of homelessness.

8/9 - The Riverwalk Cabaret series is revving up!

7/30/2014

Last January, the "Story Songs" with Jerry Sprague and Friends was wonderful, despite the frigid temps and conflicting basketball game. We learned a lot from that "Cabaret" and have three NEW Music Cabarets planned at Riverwalk Theatre's Black Box - this time with WINE (2 vouchers included with each $20 ticket)

We're hoping to attract NEW audiences, who are into the various "music scenes" planned. Coming soon is John Dale Smith combo with Super Singer/Actor/Performers we know and love from Lansing Theatre.

Saturday, August 9 at 8pm Riverwalk presents
HERE'S TO LIFE!
A Musical Revue

Black Box Stage
John Dale Smith Combo with singers: Ken Beachler (longtime theatre pillar, recently seen in Riverwalk's White Christmas) Emily English Clark (well recognized as "Sally" in Riverwalk's Follies) Matt Eldred (recently seen as "Jesus" in Riverwalk's Godspell) Janine Novenske Smith (also a starred as "Phyllis" in Riverwalk's Follies)
$20 for all ages • includes two wine vouchers • general seating
Riverwalk Theatre, 228 Museum Drive, south off  Michigan Ave., across from the Lansing Center
RiverwalkTheatre.com • 482-5700

The song lineup includes a variety of solos, duets and group numbers from theatre and beyond — some exciting lesser-known songs and a few favorites you will recognize. This promises to be a top-notch show - and there's the wine.... ;-}  -- See you there!
Future Riverwalk Music Cabarets are being planned for October 18 - Jazz with Sunny Wilkinson; and January 24 - musical theatre with Joe Quick, Kelly Stuible and friends. Stay tuned!

Script Match Launch - A New Website for Theatre Professionals and Students

7/28/2014

Playwrights can now submit their work to Script Match, allowing their scripts to be searchable by producers, actors, and all theatre professionals and students.

Script Match, www.scriptmatch.com, has launched the first phase of its website along with a funding campaign to finance the development of the remaining phases of the site. The company’s mission is to simplify the process of finding scripts, allowing theatre professionals and students to spend less time searching and more time creating. The web application will make the process of finding scripts simple and efficient. Whether it is a professional actor looking for audition material, a student looking for scene work, a producer looking for a show to put up, or anyone at all looking for plays, musicals, or monologues, the site will be an invaluable resource. The web app will use the information that a user provides about themselves and what they are looking for to match them up with scripts that suit their individual needs.

The first phase, which is now live, is a script submission page. Playwrights can use the simple online form to add their play or musical to the Script Match database. Metadata will be stored about each script, including character types, production requirements, length, time period, and many other elements which can then be flagged in a customized search. (There is no submission fee.)

Once funds are secured, work will begin on phase two, which is the search feature of the site. A user will be able to input information about what they are looking for, such as character age and type, number of actors needed, time period, length, and special considerations like wanting fight choreography, multimedia, etc. Unlimited basic searches are free to anyone. There will also be a premium membership option for a small fee that will open up the use of advanced features, such as more search options, online previews of script content, and saving searches and scripts.

There are also plans in motion for a third phase of the website, which will allow users to purchase copies of the script directly from the website and submit for production rights.

7/25 - 8/2 - The Little Mermaid by All of us Express Children's Theatre

7/25/2014

July 25-26 & August 1-2, 2014, Hannah Community Center in East Lansing. Directed by AECT Alumnus Amelia Rogocka.

In the harmonious undersea world of merpeople, the little mermaid Pearl dreams of the world above. Her sisters Luna and Coral, her father, Anemone the Sea King, and her grandmother, the Great Mother, warn her of the dangers above. But Pearl, in love with the handsome prince whose life she saved, trades her voice to the Sea Witch to become human. After the Sea Witch is vanquished by her twin sister, the Great Mother, Pearl regains her voice, marries the prince, and happiness and harmony prevail.

Delightful inventions, reverberating with the ecology of land and ocean, render exciting and newly relevant this adaptation by Linda Daugherty of the story by Hans Christian Andersen. Presented by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing.

Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life.

“A touching, life-affirming, deeply emotional drama with a generous dose of humor.” —NY Daily News.
