11/10 - “Singers on The Grand” Brings “The Wonder of Music” to the Wilson Center in St. Johns

Kicking off their 21st season, the Singers on the Grand ensemble returns to St. Johns with a musical variety show at the Wilson Center Auditorium, 101 W. Cass St. on Saturday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m.

The concert will be filled with classic pop, jazz, and Broadway standards which include song medleys celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder and Duke Ellington as well as other favorites like “I’m Beginning To See The Light,” “Dancing Queen,” “Paper Moon,” and “How Deep Is The Ocean?” Also, as is their tradition, they will perform two gospel/inspirational pieces, “Blow Gabriel Blow,” and “For the Beauty of the Earth.”

Katy Brandon McDonough and Charlie Martin direct the collaborative ensemble from Grand Ledge, and the performance will include a wide array of music through solos, duets, small groups and the close harmonies of the ten-vocalist chorus accompanied by the talented six-piece Grand Band. This season is a special tribute to the group’s founder Libby Brandon, who helped choose much of the music before passing away in August.

The Singers on The Grand ensemble vocalists include Bill Atkin, James Hall, Jessica Lesse, Charlie Martin, Dorothea Floeter Martin, Katy Brandon McDonough, Kelly Sandula-Gruner, Kaley Rahl, Dave Sincox, and Dan Templin. The Grand Band instrumentalists are Don Farnum, Bill Holda, Pete Murthum, Rick Peterson, Daniel Rahl, and John Ross.

Tickets for the “The Wonder of Music” show are only $10 and can be purchased online at https://sotg.brownpapertickets.com/, by calling 800-838-3006 or purchased at the door. For more information, visit the Singers on the Grand page on Facebook or contact James Hall at 517-242-9207.

HAIR celebrates the sixties counterculture in all its barefoot, long-haired, bell-bottomed, beaded and fringed glory. To an infectiously energetic rock beat, the show wows audiences with songs like “Aquarius,” “Good Morning, Starshine,” and “Hair”. Working venues across the Great Lakes and Canada and is the Head of Costume Shop at Wharton Center. Parking is available at the parking structure at Wharton. If you have an interest in future employment, please have your Social Security card and Drivers license with you.

Daniel Moore , who frequently does hair/wigs at Wharton, says, "We are always on the look out for people with the skills necessary to put on our call list. … however, I prefer to think about the advantages to having additional properly trained technicians working local community theater. It isn’t just wardrobe that is looking to find suitable people. Stagehands and loaders are alway needed. Other crafts often find talents among the volunteering loaders. I’m am not sure of the entire process for them because my job is more of a specialty craft with its own set of union requirements."

Welcome to the White Room at Ixion

10/13/2018

Up next for Ixion is Welcome to the White Room by Trish Harnetiaux. We look forward to seeing you there.

October 20, 21, 27 & 28 at the Robin Theatre, 1105 S. Washington Ave. Lansing, MI. Performances are 8 pm on Saturdays and 2 pm on Sundays. Tickets are $15 at the door or via eventbrite.com (See links below).

Welcome to the White Room is directed by Leo Poroshin and stars Nick Lemmer, Paul Schmidt, Jacquelyn Marks and Daniel Bonner.

Synopsis: The room is completely white. We discover Ms. White, Jennings, and Mr. Paine shortly after they have arrived, and follow their journey as they attempt to figure out exactly what they are meant to be doing. There are letters that only Ms. White can read. There is the arrival of The Last Deck of Cards in the World - and with, at all times, one-thing-leading-to-another - somewhere between throwing a party, suppressing sexual tensions, and dancing a tango - this senseless world summons its puppeteer, who's in for a big surprise.

Leo Poroshin returns to Ixion after first appearing on stage in Glengarry Glen Ross. Past directing credits include: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and The Real Thing both at Riverwalk Theatre. He will return to the Ixion stage in their March production, Fight Girl Battle World by Qui Nguyen

Nick Lemmer (Mr. Payne) returns to the Ixion stage after co-directing last season's Fears & Phobias. He has also appeared in Askew Askance A Squirrel! and She Kills Monsters. Nick will join Leo in Fight Girl Battle World as the other half of the two-headed alien fight promoter, Zimlek.

Paul Schmidt (Jennings) is making his Ixion debut after a long hiatus from theatre. He is a local producer and multi-media creative.

Jacquelyn Marks (Ms. White) is making her Ixion debut. She has appeared in numerous musicals.

Daniel Bonner (Patrick) returns to the Ixion stage following his Pulsar-nominated performance in Broke-ology. Daniel has also appeared in Secrets and She Kills Monsters. He will return in March as the galactic terrorist Adon-Ra in Fight Girl Battle World.
